People die every day. How many people have died evacuating? We won’t be told.
I live in Florida and have been through numerous hurricanes. Take basic precautions and stay inside.
People in the NE need to stop with the drama though. Right now the media is making you look like fools.
I don’t think potential record flooding is drama. And that appears to be on tap in many areas. Agnes was ‘just’ a tropical storm here in the NE and caused major flooding. That is the real danger of these systems up here.
Matt Lauer was wondering why JFK was so slow to reopen since there were patches of blue sky. LOL.
I lived in Clearwater (4 yrs} and Naples (26yrs) and I was never in a full fledged Hurricane. I remember when Donna went through Fla but it missed where I was(Clearwater), it did hit Naples and yrs afterwards, when things slowed down you could hear the phrase “ we need another Donna”. Obviously it helped the economy fixing up the damage done.
As far as I can tell my little New Jersey borough hasn’t been following the hype. Most of us prepared diligently, although unfortunately some are evacuating due to high flood waters. We are sure to have more flooding in the coming days. Emergency personnel (which includes my husband) are out and about. However, people are helping people in response to what actually occurred, not what the media was telling us “could” occur.
The media and political drama isn’t effecting all of us out here. We’re just doing what we do to take care of ourselves and our neighbors.
It’s beyond shameful and ridiculous. All hype to cover for Mr. “I Won”. I can see the writing on the wall. High unemployment numbers and sinking economy due to the catastrophic storm, Irene.
I wonder how many of those power outages are because they turned the power off. I know in my county when the wind reaches a certain point, they turn the power off to avoid live downed wires and people getting electrocuted.
I was watching one station and they a reporter was standing in a cul de sac and there was water about 3-4 inches in about 6 homes on the circle at the end of the street, She panned a little too far and standing right behind her was a guy with a camera taking photos of the house with water an inch from their doors and he was on dry ground, standing on grass.
Shep on Fox was talking to a reporter in either NJ, or NY, forget which one but OMG they had seafoam all over the place, even on the doors of the restaurants and hotels that faced the ocean. It was a little odd because the seafoam was an icky brown and she said it smelled horrible. I’ve never seen seafoam that looked like septic tank sludge. Florida’s seafoam is white and it does not stink.
This entire thing is bordering on the absurd.
