Have you seen the cell phone commercial that the guy who's dancing gets the text message late and it's for a “flash mob”. Was flash mob originally a term used for a spontaneous dance event or was this cell phone commercial playing off the “flash mobs” and trying to turn it into something else? If it's the latter it sure seems in bad taste.

Based on the info I have noticed over the past few years, 'flash mobs' originally started as a way to have 'surprise' events for the public, for entertainment or personal purposes.

I believe the term for what is being done now is 'wilding' or what I would call anarchy. The media wants to continue to 'confuse' the public by using the wrong label, just as they refuse to mention race in their articles, even when it seems to dominate the entire subject.

Flash mobs were originally fun, spontaneous events. I got caught in a zombie flash mob in San Francisco once. It was hilarious. There was also a big pillow fight flash mob where 150 people showed up in pajamas and started beating on each other with feather pillows. All in fun until the pillows broke and feathers clogged up the city drainage system. What’s happening now with these “rob mobs” is something entirely different.
