My favorite factoid being the black 1867 Louisiana Reconstruction Legislature. It spent about $267,000 on Christmas hams for its membership. If this recent report is true then nothing has changed but the names of the people involved.

If they were once slaves, then I don't really begrudge them some Christmas hams. It's the entitlement mentality that I object to, where descendants that were never slaves themselves think that they are entitled to compensation for what their ancestors went through.

I’m very skeptical on that one, do you know how much ham $267,000. would buy back then? Even now it would be an astronomical sum to spend on hams for the members of one state legislature.
