I read that the Obamas are picking up the tab for the rent ($50,000 per week)

How much does a president get paid a year? (Above the table that is)

The latest figure (2011) is $400,000 per year plus $50,000 expense allowance. But, don’t forget all of the money that comes in from sales of his books. s/off

Of course that does not count all the “gifts” he gets from various and sundry places. What I don’t understand is that previous presidents (except Clinton) “vacationed” at home — a place that already had security in place, or at Camp David.

Previous “Summer Whitehouses” that I remember included Roosevelt’s Campabello, Truman went back to Bess’s house in MO, Eisenhower’s Gettysburg Farm, Kennedy’s place on the Cape, Ford’s cabin in Vail, Nixon’s San Clemente, Carter’s Peanut Farm, Reagan’s Santa Barbara Ranch’ Bush’s family estate in Kennebunkport; and W’s ranch in Crawford.

Clinton is the only one without roots because he’d been living in the Governor’s mansion in Arkansas for 12 years before being elected President. But, Clinton’s friends “loaned” him houses to vacation. He didn’t have to pay rent.

I don’t understand why the Obamas never seem to want to go back to their lovely home in Chicago? They hadn’t lived there very long before thhhhey moved into the White House. You’d think that they’d want to be tweaking the decor and enjoying all their old friends — especially the kids. They NEVER seem to go home for anything.
