"When you look at African American males, 40% of them are unemployed, those under 30 years of age. I understand exactly the entire nation must be involved in this recovery but the black community is experiencing a great recession. That's what we're experiencing," Rep. Frederica Wilson (D-FL) told MSNBC.
"And all of the growth in the past 30 years, we see it slipping away. From home ownership, the middle class; it's slipping away from our hands. And it has a lot to do with many issues. Racism, shipping jobs overseas, access -- no access to technology. You know, the digital divide is there and many of the new jobs that's what it requires. So, we have a problem."

If she dug into this situation a bit....you’d eventually find that urban areas of the United States....where a higher portion of black males live anyway....are getting the sharper end of the spear of unemployment because business growth is non-existent. If you looked around at where growth of jobs was taking place....you’d realize that most smaller towns and cities are getting what job growth there is.
So you either pack up and move....or you simply sit in a pit...waiting for urban growth which will never come. And if you live in Illinois....no matter what type of race you are....you probably aren’t going to find job potential anyway.
Satan's stetson
Well, it is racism to say that since these people are black they shouldn’t be held to the same standard of behavior as everyone else.
This is the one who is known for her hats. Adds a little amusement to any story about her with a picture: http://www.tampabay.com/news/politics/legislature/article999326.ece
We should probably ignore the fact that 70% of black children are born to single parent families....and lets not mention the the huge number of inner city blacks who drop out of highschool because it doesn’t fit into their thug/rap lifestyle......spare me the racism bull$hit.
What is this clown in an orange hat going to do for African Americans? I mean, truthfully?
In all fairness, I’d drop out too if I had to attend one of those inner city schools. You’re right, as whites keep moving toward the urban black lifestyle, they will get the same results.
How come there is no mention of illegal immigration and its affect on the job market for Americans? One can’t resolve a problem if one does not want to see the whole picture.
There are many reasons blacks struggle more than whites the least of which is racism. Black leaders and Democrats for years have dished out federal welfare checks creating a dependent society. They have taught blacks that they are owed something and don’t have to work for it and that they are oppressed because of the color of their skin. Forget the fact there are black business leaders, doctors, lawyers, executives, Oprahs, athletes, etc. all who have proven blacks can be successful if they have the drive. We all know hard-working, achieving blacks who proudly bear their accomplishments.
You want the definition of a HATE CRIME? That bitch pictured is it.

Grim graduation rates for black males highlight racial gap

Are young black men ready for the increasingly brutal, knowledge-based job market in the U.S.? The answer is a resounding “no,” according to a new report, Yes We Can: The Schott 50 State Report on Public Education and Black Males 2010. Calling it a “national crisis,” the report found that only 47 percent of black males graduated from high school in the 2007-2008 school year.
The report’s authors also stated that the results of the eighth grade reading assessment test scores, which measure how many black males read at or above the proficiency level, “should set off alarm bells.” The “best” score was a dramatically low: 15 percent (Kentucky, New Jersey), and several states averaged only five percent (Mississippi, Nevada).
According to the report, “(M)ore than twice as many black students are classified as ‘mentally retarded’ in spite of research demonstrating that the percentages of students from all groups are approximately the same at each intelligence level.” The report adds, “The persistent over-classification of black male students as ‘mentally retarded’ reflects, at best, a lack of professional development in this area for teachers and other staff.”
If its a self inflicted wound...it’s not racism.
If english is your native language and you’re unable to speak it...
It might hinder your ability to get a job.
If you wear baggy pants so low we can see your underwear...
It might hinder your ability to get a job.
If you drop outa school cause education is selling out to the man...
It might hinder your ability to get a job.
Being black is more of a cultural/social thing than a racial thing.
There are plenty of “black” whites, just like there were white indians in the 1850s.
I work as a teacher’s assistant for a major online university, and one of the assignments I grade frequently is a reflective life story of my students, many of whom are blacks finally beginning college. The vast majority of them are women who began having babies at 14 or 15 after having grown up with mothers who slept around with abusive men, did drugs and ended up in and out of prison. One particular student really angered me with her story of gang rape, parental neglect and abuse, with a father who only wanted custody of her so he could get her ‘social security money to buy drugs.’ I don’t see how racism ever plays into these stories—most of these stories always break my heart and also reinforce the idea that the black community is self-destructing, not because of any outside influences, but because of the crime, sex, drugs and violence inherent in their own homes and community. All personal choices. The most sickening aspect of the stories I read over and over again is that these so-called ‘adults’ use children as a means to an end. And the cycle of waste and abuse continues, because all these broken people are brought into this cesspool of a world.
You forgot POTUS. With blacks in the US making up less than 13% of the population, he wouldn't have been elected if we were such a racist country.
