Baloney. That’s the diurnal variation of the magnetic field measured from the GOES satellite. Look at the date stamps.

I believe God has the power to set off earthquakes. I also believe that in the end times we will have a lot of earthquakes and I suspect they will happen on fault lines in diverse places.

Quix did not say anything outside the realm of his world view on this thread. A forum full of head-nodding dirtboy clones would be boring and shallow as hell. On the other hand, one dirtboy is fun and interesting. I enjoy your point of view, dirtboy. But I don’t want your point of view to be the only one here.

CNN has video of Tysons Corner VA (many bricks & concrete off a newer building and at least one car that was parked was crushed)

Rumbled the house in Calvert County (south of Annapolis, SE of DC). Initial thought was that a contruction vehicle was nearby, then thought maybe a terrorist took out the Calvert Cliffs nuclear plant.

As it turned out, the plant is online and running ok. DC subways are closed, Nats Park assessing damage before opening gates for tonights game against Arizona.

Traffic a nightmare up in DC from what I’m hearing.

I trust that in the last 900 posts the apocalptikooks haven’t been trying to exploit the quake through astounding scientific ignorance?

They’ll exploit it......after all Apocalypses give Jeremiahs and Cassandras something to look forward to.

And all the atheists who fancy themselves “smarter” than everyone else, hyperventilate on que. So what else is new.

Wow!

She's actually rolling on the floor laughing.

I had no idea people actually did that.

My office building was literally shaking and swaying - windows shaking and rattling. It was very intense - people were scared and the evacuation sirens started going off. The building was evacuated and we were not allowed to return except to get our stuff and leave. No cell phones, no fire department, no emergency service vehicles. A wake up call - if something happens, you are on your own.

Of course.

There are fault lines all over the place . . . even where we don’t know of them yet.

nevertheless . . . rare in a given area is still rare in a given area.

A 5.9 earthquake strikes Virginia and other parts of East Coast

August 23, 2011 2:50 PM
by Paula C. Squires

Office workers in downtown Richmond poured out of offices shortly before 2 p.m. Tuesday when an earthquake rumbled through central Virginia from its epicenter near Mineral in Louisa County, about 40 miles away. According to the U.
S. Geological Survey, the quake struck at 1:51 p.m., was 3.7 miles deep and had a preliminary magnitude of 5.9. It was the largest quake to hit Virginia in more than 100 years, knocking out electric power to North Anna Power Station in Louisa County, causing the station to shut down two nuclear reactors.

That must have been something to watch!

I was camping in NH when an earthquake hit. The sound of granite poping was dang scarey! It kind of shook my bones.

I like the earth doing nothing; just plain ole boring! :)

...texting still works (sometimes!). have communicated with family via texting.

I heard from my family and friends in the DC area via e-mail...pretty much right after it happened.

My friend in Reston did say that her cellphone service was cutting in and out.

I'm late to the news today. Did Palin announce? Something must have triggered that DC quake!

There was severe shaking in Richmond. I was buying groceries and the windows along the front of the store were flapping so loudly they almost broke.

I heard an explanation today that because of the older geological age of the east coast, the rock beds are harder - so a smaller East Coast earthquake can feel up to 10x stronger than one on the West Coast. After today, I think I believe it.
