US Republican presidential candidate Ron Paul has criticized Washington's policy toward Iran, particularly the sanctions imposed on Tehran over its nuclear program.
During a heated debate between GOP presidential contenders in Ames, Iowa aired on Fox News, Paul questioned the value of the sanctions policy against Iran.
He added that he would prefer more diplomatic discourse and trade with Tehran rather than relying on threatening rhetoric.
People in the countries you put sanctions on, you are more likely to fight them. I say a policy of peace is free trade. Stay out of their internal business, don't get involved in these wars, and just bring our troops home, said the Texas congressman, who has emerged as one of the GOP front-runners and is currently polling third in the United States after Mitt Romney and Rick Perry.
Commenting on Iran's nuclear energy program, Paul referred to a CIA report that says there is no evidence showing that Tehran's nuclear program has been deviated toward weapons production.
Paul noted that the idea of a nuclear threat posed by Iran has been exaggerated over time, saying that the reasons behind the tensions between Washington and Tehran go far back.
We've been at war in Iran for a lot longer than '79. We started it in 1953 when we sent in a coup, installed the shah. And the reaction, the blowback, came in 1979. It's been going on and on because we just plain don't mind our own business. That's our problem, he said.
“Paul is a dangerous man and should be nowhere near the Oval Office.”
That’s the problem. If he runs as a third party candidate, we are in trouble. Zero will win.
I think he is an antisemite, and this stand on Iran certainly only helps my opinion. But I know people who think Paul should be the next president because of his fiscal policy. God help us. Literally.
Paul has been hitting the bong too much.
I know that college roommates of his son, Rand Paul, said that Rand used marijuana in college, and Rand has a far more reasonable view than his father does of what our Mideast policy should be.
Obama had the same plan of working and playing nice-nice with the Muslims and we see how that worked out.
Ron Paul will say one thing that makes sense and then say 10 things that make him crazy as a loon.
Paul is a nut.
Most Iranians don't even believe Press TV. Everyone knows it's nothing more than propaganda. Ron Paul and his paulbot brigades are more likely to believe Press TV than the average Iranian.
They are also wrong that our founders where isolationist.. They where not.. I think in Washington’s defense we virtually had no military.. His goal to was to start us on the right foot..
“We started it in 1953 when we sent in a coup, installed the shah. And the reaction, the blowback, came in 1979”
The “blowback” was the Jimmy Carter sell out of the Shah.
We intervened in the UK’s business when we had that nasty revolution.
What Paulbots failed to realize is that is over 200 years we had the luxury of the ocean separating us from Europe.. Basically it months to transport troops from Europe to America However, we don’t have the luxury anymore.. Japan proved the ocean couldn’t protect us anymore...
Ronpaul can want til the cows come home and it’ll still be “want in one hand and poop in the other and see which fills up first”.
Maybe once and for all we will eventually be done with ronpaul and all those obnoxious paulnutz.
How is that all working with China? Our businesses move to China due to free trade, cheaper, etc. In order to have a business in China you have to give up your legal patents, all classified, secret information, technology, the how to, etc..in mean while, China is busy hacking into our systems, stealing us blind, etc.
So yes let’s reward Iran like we reward China.....
Thanks mnehring.
A smart man on economics but a total clueless idiot on foreign policy. Paul would be far worse than the AnointedIdiot as it comes/relates to US foreign policy....and people wonder why the Russian media love Paul like they do? =.=
Do we have any intelligence that suggests that Iran is trying to build nuclear weapons? Are there any official U.S. Government reports?
More than is probably public about our own current programs, however, if you want an interesting read, look up Operation Merlin.
“A smart man on economics but a total clueless idiot on foreign policy”
I’ll take a Bachmann presidency with Paul as senior economic advisor. Just keep him out of the State Department.
“Basically it months to transport troops from Europe to America”
And now it takes 30 minutes to deliver a ballistic missile, a threat that didn’t exist 200 years ago.
And even though the founders warned against foreign entanglements, there was no language that forbid it completely. Sometimes intervention is necessary where there’s a national threat, although that doesn’t mean we need to get involved in a Ugandan tribal war for example.
You get no argument from me..
The Obama-Ron Paul agenda in the middle east is anti-freedom and liberty. Ron and Obama want sharia and an Islam Caliphate to succeed. Ron wants the US to but out of the middle east, but he doesn’t mind Terrorists coming into the USA.
