Rick Perry once tried to get out of a speeding ticket.
Rick Perry once owned stock in a chain of video stores competing against Blockbuster, some of which also rented adult movies.
Rick Perry once was a Democrat.
The attacks have come fast and furious against him. But most of the attacks take on a peculiar and very telling strain.
A reporter on television or in print will utter a sentence like this, Privately many Republican consultants suggest Rick Perry may be too Texas or shoot from the hip too much and might turn off necessary independent voters and women.
It sounds so serious. As Alex Castellanos said on CNN the other night on John King USA, some fear Rick Perry might have Mad Cowboy Disease.
Let me sum this all up for you into what Rick Perrys biggest problem is.
Whether you are talking about Alex (Team Carole Strayhorn 2006) or Karl Rove (Team Kay Bailey Hutchison 2010) or a host of other national Republican consultants, Rick Perry and his Texas team have beaten a significant portion of them.
But they did not just beat them. In many cases, Team Perry then shut the consultants who opposed him out of future business with him.
So there are scores and scores of Republican consultants who have scores to settle with Rick Perry and his team. And for guys like Karl Rove, if Perry were to win the White House, Karl and a few others would see themselves shut out of White House business for at least four years.
Rick Perry may be the only guy in America to have beaten both Karl Rove and also Obamas own consultant, David Axelrod.
So theres a lot of score settling in a lot of the attacks. Next time you hear some Republican consultant say Rick Perry cant win because he is too much of a cowboy, understand that it is probably a national Republican consultant fearful they will be shut out of work if Perry wins and, more importantly, understand that the same dynamics were in place in 1980 with Reagans boys from California team of consultants and the national consultants back them said the same about Reagan hes too much of a cowboy conservative who will alienate key voting blocks.
Thats not to say Perry is Reagan. It is to say the GOP national consultants have been pulling the same stuff since 1980.
One problem with your analysis - she isn’t running.
I find this Governor Perry news from today, both troublesome and worrisome:
Rick Perry: Illegal Immigrants Who Serve In The Military Deserve Citizenship
Good night, everyone!
Prayers for all!
Perry
Record: Talk 90% action 40%
Plans: Talk 90% action 40%
electability vs. Obama: 90%
Palin: Since her talk matches here actions she only needs one score.
Record:90%
Plans: 90%
Electabilty Vs. Obama 90%
The point that you’re missing is that Obama much like Perry has a record of complete failure. Obama’s poll number keep droping as more people are forced to face reality and as reality become more inevitable Obama’s chances will fade. It’s not about who Obama will be ruining against. it’s about how Obama is going to stop the course of self implosion in which he’s currently on.
They are such embarrassments.
“You cannot get me to vote for a Democrat” (re Perry)
I remember when McCain got the nomination I told my family I absolutely would not vote for him. I mean I truly loathed the man for many reasons. When it came time to vote, I of course did vote for him because I knew not doing so was going to get a much more dangerous man into the White House.
Personally, I have not made a decision on who I like the most for the republican ticket. I am hoping it is someone that is conservative and not afraid to do what’s necessary to rid us of all things Obama.
I think we all want our country represented by someone that loves America for a change. I think for those that want a particular candidate to win the nomination—do everything you can to help them win. But in the end, we get nowhere by not voting for whoever gets on the republican ticket. Not voting for the republican or voting 3rd party is truly a vote for Obama. We can all agree that another Obama term would be the worst possible outcome.
The Texas border is 1200 miles of river. The Rio Grande winds back and forth. A fence is straight, cutting off homes, ranch and farm land, and livestock from owners and water.
I am no coward. Illegal immigration is a huge deal.
But I asked..who has a plan?
I seldom look at where posters are located, but I had to with you. Looks like you are in Cali..a lovely state. I was going to post our border miles, but I think you really don’t care. Look at a map. Cal’s border is miniscule compared to Texas or Arizona. Then look at the terrain. Most of the tunnels built under “walls” are in Cal, aren’t they? How many sanctuary cities do you have? Why is your population leaving?
Until you have a politician (you may have a few) that can offer a solution, maybe you should’nt attack Texas or Texas politicians.
Impossible to avoid with a 10 year record as governor.
Let's pick someone without an executive record. That worked to get Obama elected, right? /s
Even Palin only has a short record to run on with more "fuzzy" statements on immigration than policy actions on the issue.
We need to keep perspective on Perry along with the rest so we don't end up having imagined a great candidate who isn't and handing him or her the nomination.
Thanks for those facts doc.

True, that. We need to start just comparing the candidates on the issues, especially their track records. It's one thing to say something a year before the election campaigning, the question is whether their past records indicate this is a core belief they will act upon.
It is way too early to start the bot bit, we can save the pep rally for the general. For now, let's vett these people, warts and all.
Anyone who won't look at the negatives (and all the candidates have them), isn't paying attention.
That's how we all got saddled with the current mess in the white hut, and we don't need more of the same from either side.
I am glad this was written. I don’t like what I have been seeing in the attacks on Perry from Repulicans when the real enemy is in the WH. If Sarah does not run I would easily vote for Perry and be happy about it.
We'll get to that fork in the road when it comes time.
Frankly, it's disturbing that America's richest company doesn't really care enough to give us the very best.
For the past several years here on FR Texas is always been held up as the best state for just about everything. Well, Perry has been the governor of that state for the past decade and I would vote for him for President in a heartbeat. This election is about the economy and restoring America. I have no doubt that Rick Perry loves this country and will do everything he can to make it a business friendly environment once again. That’s what matters - jobs, jobs, jobs. Perry has delivered on that front in Texas. If he doesn’t stand by conservative principles once elected to higher office, he too can be voted out in four.
As usual we have more than our fair share of RINOs and Leftwingtards trying for the Republican nomination.
Perry says he make the Federal Government ‘inconsequential to our lives’. I have just one question, is he telling the truth on this promise. If yes, I’m on board. If no, bring on Sarah. Yeah.
I simply do not believe that someone who could mandate that every 12-year-old female in his state be forced to take an experimental drug has the proper instincts to fulfill that promise.
It is the right sentiment but he is the wrong person to do it.
