Villaraigosa calls for overhaul of Proposition 13
SacBee: Capitol Alert ^ | 8/16/11 | Dan Walters

In what could be an initial foray into statewide politics, Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa called Tuesday for a renewal of progressive politics in California in the nation, including an overhaul of the state's iconic limit on property taxes, Proposition 13.

"Progressives have to start thinking - and acting - big again," Villaraigosa declared in prepared remarks for the Sacramento Press Club, to counteract anti-tax and anti-government drives by the Tea Party and other conservative blocs.

"If the Tea Party in Washington and their counterparts here in Sacramento are intent on pitching jobs overboard in the mindless pursuit of ideology over country, we have to be willing to stand and defend our people," Villaraigosa said, adding, "And yes, that means making a case for new revenue to sustain long-term investment."

Villaraigosa was particularly critical of the spending cuts that Gov. Jerry Brown and the Legislature's Democrats made to balance the state budget after their efforts to extend some state taxes were rejected by Republicans. Those cuts, he said, will damage California's ability to educate its children and remain economically competitive.

"Governor Brown, I say we need to have the courage to test the voltage in some of these so-called 'third-rail' issues, beginning with Proposition 13," . . .

After UCLA, Villaraigosa attended the People’s College of Law (PCL), an unaccredited law school that promotes labor union causes in Los Angeles.

Villaraigosa’s desire to practice law has been prevented due to his repeated inability to pass the Bar Exam, which he has failed four times.[6]

After PCL, he became a field representative/organizer with the United Teachers Los Angeles (UTLA). He later served as president of the Los Angeles chapter of the American Civil Liberties Union and the American Federation of Government Employees.

He wants to throw native Californians like me out into the streets so that illegal aliens from Mexico can take over my humble abode. Plain and simple.

'Villaraigosa said, adding, "And yes, that means making a case for new revenue to sustain long-term investment."

"Progressives" can't even bring themselves to say "new taxes". Instead they cloak it as "new revenue", "revenue enhancement", "increase revenue" so they don't continue to get tagged as tax and spend liberals.

I knew this was coming. The leftist coalition is simply too powerful. They are going to put us in the streets and turn our homes over to their constituents.

Once the redistricting is completed and Proposition 13 eliminated California will be the first state to fall under totally uncontrollable and permanent leftist tyranny.

California is America's future.

...you see, this is another way Dems can grab tax dollars to funnel to illegals, unions and other public employee/pet government projects. The teachers unions would love to take more from the property owners...

It’s full-scale Marxism on display, the Government has become more important than the businesses that support it, so down, down, down the drain goes California.

Revenues = Commie term for taxes.

pitching jobs overboard in the mindless pursuit of ideology over country

This is what is called "projection" - ascribing your own motives to your opponent. For radical Brown Nazis like Villaraigosa, job-destroying ideology is not a bug, it's a feature.

(I always got a kick out of George Putnam calling him "Mister Villygarossa" all the time.)

You, are correct.

There will be no more California, it will become a Socialist state of 80% taxation, no drilling and Mexico Norte with all the luxuries of Ciudad Juarez or Tijuana.

This may be my call to exit, stage right.

Hint for Tea Party in California. Another Proposition further limiting property tax should be working on now.

Proposition 13 can only be repealed by a popular vote, redistricting can't effect its limits on property taxes.

What redistricting can do is put Democrats over 2/3rds in each house of the Legislature, allowing them to raise income and sales taxes without the consent of any Republican legislator.

Maybe there aren’t as many trillions of dollars of real estate taxes to be ripped off and misspent as there were a few years ago, but its still potentially a lot of money...

**He wants to throw native Californians like me out into the streets so that illegal aliens from Mexico can take over my humble abode. Plain and simple.**

You have that right! He wants to build more housing, more schools, more welfare, social services, etc. for his people.
What he is doing is inviting more in from Mexico.

Then one by one each state goes & ....follow the dots. Only this nation is saved by an all out revolution & that's not to happen in a rigged ballot box.
