AMES, Iowa (AP) -- The Bible tells wives to be submissive to their husbands. If she were president, would that apply to Michele Bachmann?

In Thursday's Republican debate in Iowa, the Minnesota congresswoman was asked if she would be submissive to her husband.

We knew the question was coming. It already made the rounds. I thought she handled it fine.

FOX wasted the debate opportunity on tabloid tripe.

They'd say "Americans want to hear about jobs & the economy and we'll get to that" then go off and ask asinine "gotcha" questions. It was irritating.

Per their 4 person "ad break" panel online, "jobs" was 9th of the 9 topics Fox told the candidates were part of the debate. #2, I think, was "candidate vulnerabilities."

Very sexist thinking. Why just ask Bachmann? I think it’s a stupid question but if he’s going to ask it why not ask the men also? I would love to have heard Romney’s answer. Mormonism is seriously patriarchal.

Did they ask any of the male candidates if they would consider screwing their secretary? Just curious.

My apologies ... my comments weren't meant towards Roman Catholics ...

Apparently, they came across that way ... and thus my words-metaphors were poorly chosen ...

My apologies again ...

>>> What is your theological answer to the “submission” question?

See my previous post #27.

The submissive role in a marriage relationship means that even though the partners are considered equal, there is still a need to honor the principle of “unity of command”.

In other words, where the family is concerned, the man is the head of the household... with final say in making decisions.

The question posed to Michelle assumed that the husband would abuse his position as head of household to usurp the authority vested in his wife by The People in non-family matters.

>>> It answered one undefined term with another one. I wouldn’t say it was so much wrong as unilluminating.

I probably should have said “incorrect” instead of “wrong”.

The word wrong implies something I didn’t intend.

When Palin was the VP candidate, there were some fringe Christian groups that opposed her based on their convictions that male headship applies to government as well as marriage.
