I suppose you think it would have demonstrated wisdom to vote against TARP, but then I'm certain that you have absolutely no concept of the magnitude or imminence of the collapse that would have befallen us had TARP not passed. I suppose in your imagination, the utter destruction of the global financial system that maintains our civilization would have been met with an 'oh, well, that's how free markets work' attitude, without any concept of the notion that we have not maintained a true free market in decades, and that collapse would lead to the empowerment of every sordid, machinating element of global society that you as a conservative likely oppose. Moreover, you apparently see inestimable value in shutting down the government in a politically suicidal fight over legislative half-measures that don't address the true drivers of our debt, a mere 16 months before the critical contest of our time, while pilloring the one representative who has single-handidly put forth the only comprehensive and politically feasible plan to deal with our fiscal crisis. It may be self-gratifying to grouse and carp about the insufficiency of the efforts of others, or to oppose every workable solution for a fictional panacea that comports with your notion of ideological purity, but it's neither realistic or productive, and when it's conducted in a routinely impudent fashion, it's altogether unwelcome.
