House Speaker John Boehner's decision not to appoint the Republican Party's financial wizard, Rep. Paul Ryan, to a 12-member super committee tasked with finding more than $1 trillion in savings came as a surprise to almost everyone but Ryan, who said he asked not to be a member of the panel despite earlier indications that he would serve if asked.
Several Republicans had rooted for Ryan to be part of the 12-member panel.
"I definitely would have Chairman Paul Ryan, just because he lives and breathes these numbers, he knows them inside and out. He understands what needs to be done," Rep. Michael Grimm, R-N.Y., told CNBC before Boehner's announcement. "I think Paul Ryan definitely has to be at that."
Ryan, chairman of the House Budget Committee, said Wednesday that he asked Boehner not to consider him because of his plan to overhaul the budget process this fall. Aides to Boehner confirmed that to Fox News.
"This past year has shown that the federal budget process is more broken than ever and needs to be reformed," the Wisconsin congressman said in a written statement, showering praise on the three Republicans that Boehner chose -- Rep. Jeb Hensarling of Texas and Reps. Dave Camp and Fred Upton, both of Michigan.
"If we are truly going to put the country's fiscal house in order, it will not be enough to temporarily reduce what Washington spends," he said. "We must permanently reform the process by which working Americans hard-earned tax dollars are spent"

I know you think Palin will miraculously announce and march to the nomination. But what if she doesn't? It was predicted here she'd be in by the 4th of July; then by Aug. 1. Now the date is, supposedly, Labor Day. But what if she doesn't run? Do you back my candidate, Herman Cain? But what if he loses (as I expect he will, even when I support him)? Do you back Rick Perry, who isn't as conservative as Cain or Bachman, but who likely will beat either?
These are not diatribe questions to be answered with a "look pal" retort. They are serious questions with possibly results that you won't like, but which people must plan for. Did you and FR support McCain vs. Obama in 2008? I think so. I know I did. He wasn't my first, second, or third choice---but he was the only choice vs. Obama.
:-)
Romney is no choice. Forget about it, pal. If I’m the last man standing against these fascist socialist bastards, so be it. I’d rather die standing as a free man, than live on my knees as a slave to fascist government.
Right you are, troll breath, but we're sending them smokin to Valhalla, one by one. |
Dang trolls. Looks like it is going to be open season on DU trolls for a while.

Looks like Sandy et al’s “mormon friendly” site didn’t last long.
What so many don’t seem to get is Romeny Vs. Obama ISN”T A CHOICE AT ALL.
Romney IS Obama, just ‘white and delightsome’ to use a Mormon phrase.
If Romney gets the nom, I’m out of the GOP because they have already left me. I held my nose and voted for McCain b/c of Palin and I will not do it again.
No more compromising and no more picking nominees because it is ‘their turn’.
Romney believes he is fulfilling a prophecy of Joseph Smith’s by running and he will lie and say anything to get the votes. He is a democrat lying and claiming to be a republican.
LOL! Willie Green, Sinkspur and the other assorted flotsam fail again!
You don’t have to go home, but you can’t stay here.
Yeah, weren’t they the ones who were dancing on Free Republic’s grave, it turned out prematurely? LOL! Poor The Comedian and Mobile Vulgus, or Moldy Vulgar as we used to call him.
Oh, I’m worried sick about where all their little lost sheep will go now...
Okay, not that worried.
All right. All right!! Not worried at all.
Was other Mormons' carp site, too...Fprod & Sickbay.
LOL! Accept no substitutes!
Since the entire purpose of this ridiculous commission is to give Republicans cover to help the rats raise taxes, I can’t blame Ryan for wanting no part of it. The only thing left to see is which of the twelve Republicans is in a “safe” enough district to help the scumbags raise taxes.
Pray for America. Pray for gridlock.
Paul Ryan did the right thing. He wisely decided he didn’t want any part of this Cluster F**k.
Indeed.
Really? All of us..
Free Republic is filled with countless idiots these days ... Nobody in this country has any reason anymore ...
Thank goodness you're here.
Love youe #36! LMAO!
