The U.S. Olympic Committee is threatening to sue the Maine man who put on a unique sporting event last weekend.
Nearly 3,000 people turned out for the Redneck Olympics. The event featured a series of competitions and ended with the roasting of 12 pigs. But USOC officials say the organizer violated the law by using the word "olympics" in his event's title.
This is a story about David---in this case Harold Brooks of Hebron, Maine--and Goliath, the United States Olympic Committee. It all began last weekend on 200 acres of land near Brooks's home.
"We call it the Redneck Olympics, Pig Roast and Music Festival," Brooks says.
In video shot by the Lewiston Sun Journal newspaper, three men in helmets race lawnmowers around a track. Other contestants bobbed for pigs feet, drove

So when are they going to sue the Special Olympics?
“Olympics” is a generic term for any rigorous competition, IMHO.
But let’s see what the courts say.

Since there is a World Series of Poker, I assume that baseball has not done anything to trademark the name World Series.
Athletics and card game exhibitions are unrelated services.
But dont mind me, Ive only been practicing trademark law for decades.
But I seem to remember stories about the USOC threatening places like restaurants and dry cleaners for using the word ‘Olympic’.
Is this due to the fact that this protection was done by an act of Congress? Or what?

Special Olympics probably has been granted permission to use the name.
I would be surprised if the Redneck Olympics wasn’t a competition of some sort.

Yeah, there were definielty competitions. Eight events.
Redneck Olympics, Pig Roast and Music Festival. There will be eight Redneck Olympic events like bobbing for pigs feet, wife carrying, pie eating, and water mellon haul. There will also be mud runs, lawn mower races and a wet T-shirt contest. Ice cold beer will be available. Also at the event will be six (6) bands for musical entertainment.

Liberals have a great time?..they always are so angry calling the Right, Nazi etc..an on-line mag staff member had to be erased from further view [called kill the evidence of bias] on a personal facebook page via friend when calling Republicans: Nazi to another "friend" on that site--which turned into a firestorm of words. People wonder why a well known mag which has added political views is losing to competition same state glossy mags which focus showing the beauty of "that state", the real estate available, events etc which use none of this political rhetoric.
