Two GOP Senators Survive Wisconsin Recall Elections

Two GOP Senators Survive Wisconsin Recall Elections

Millions invested in elections for six GOP senators in what could be 2012 battleground state

By Tom Curry

At least two Republican state senators survived recall elections as votes were counted Tuesday night in Wisconsin in state Senate races which have gained national attention.

The two Republican winners were state Sen Robert Cowles and state Sen. Sheila Harsdorf.

Democrats, organized labor and progressive groups were using the recall effort to seek retribution against six GOP Senate allies of Gov. Scott Walker who enacted a labor law overhaul that ended collective bargaining rights for many public sector workers.

Walker and his allies also enacted a voter identification law and a redistricting plan, which is being challenged in court.

With the split in Wisconsin’s Senate at 19 Republicans and 14 Democrats, a net turnover of three would change party control.

In the 2010 elections, Walker won the governor’s office while the GOP gained four seats in the Senate, giving them the majority.

What is it in the LaCrosse area that makes it tilt left?

Voter fraud?

Actually, the illegal guys were addressed during a Dem admin.

Many years ago TN required a valid ID to get beer and actually cracked down on it. They left in droves.

It’s a cliffhanger and down to one seat reports MSNBC:

“Wisconsin recall elections down to one seat
Control of state Senate hinges on district in Milwaukee suburbs”

Illegals love to kill Americans while driving drunk....it is a “right of passage” A cop buddy of mine told me illegals kill 10 Americans a day while driving drunk. He doesn’t know how to lie!

No problem. These are very trying times. By the way, I sincerely do appreciate your post (#43) and can definitely relate. I will keep you and your great state in my prayers.

How could anyone vote for any Dim that abandoned their post and hid in Illinois rather than vote in the Senate as they were elected to do ?

I'm from California

Yeah, we've got lots of Wisconsin transplants in Cali. They come for the cheese. Just kidding. Good luck!

This is people voting to steal other people’s money - plain and simple. A more controlled version of the London looters.

I'm sure I don't have to remind you but with the conservative wave in WI came the modernization of their CCW law.

If my information is correct, their law will recognize all other state's permits.

Its a long step from your Constitutional approach in AZ but we are making some real progress and WI is leading the way 2A issues and more!

>>What is it in the LaCrosse area that makes it tilt left?<<

Yes, it’s weird because the population is really into hunting and fishing. However, most of the La Crosse economy consists of UW La Crosse, two high class hospitals, Gunderson and Mayo/Franciscan Skemp, and companies that used to employ thousands of union workers but have since moved or sold out like Trane and Heileman Brewery.

That, plus the local paper is solidly Democrat. They riddled Kapanke when they ran false ethics charges against him over the past few years. Headlines about the initial charges; news buried inside when found baseless.

La Crosse is also one of the lower income areas of the state, especially south of La Crosse.

I also suspect that close to 50% probably get checks from one government or another, some for working, and many for not working.

Exactly. What I don’t understand is why people would vote for higher taxes to pay for benefits for others that they can’t get themselves. It boggles the mind.

I really think it is what you said - the university and the amount of government and union workers here - the county seat for all public services is in LaCrosse. I think with the expansion of goverment over the past thirty years this area has just become more and more liberal. We joke that we are “Madison west”. I was suprised that Kapanke even won in the first place in this area.

Conservatives nationwide are cheering on Wisconsin. I have worked all over your state, from the Northwoods to the Dells to Washington Island to skislopes by the Mississippi, and have never been to a state with better people and fewer dupes. From the tone of your post, whatever happens tonight,I don’t think you are about to let ‘em get you down.

Nine more precincts reported (now 65 of 82) in Darling’s race and she’s now up by 2600 votes, versus down by 1200 before those nine reported. Hope the rest run the same way.

30,394 to 27,766 now, Rep Darling ahead
