Thanks. We are. The police cannot protect us, through no fault of their own, so we will. I do want to stress that - the police have simply been overwhelmed. It isn’t incompetance, fear, or bad leadership. Just being outnumbered, with the mobs being able to organise and move faster.
It’s a fairly old neighborhood, unusually friendly for the city, with a surprising number of vets (with the usual number of questionable “souveniers”) and a lot of rather burly builders. No one has gone to work today. Homes come first.
Our local shops, the doctor and the pub got the word from the police to shut about an hour ago - they refuse to close, as many of the older members of the community depend on them. The main local shop and the pub have organised people, meaning a lot of very annoyed guys hanging around, escorting the elderly and checking on them, drinking the odd free beer and waiting for some bunch of kids to try something.
It’s getting a little bit pressured here. People are nervous, and, to be honest, scared. This is stuff you see in a distant country, not in your back yard. But those scumbags are not going to win. This is OUR home. Not theirs to ruin.
Good on ya, mate! as your Aussie cousins might say.
Seriously, good work there, good luck and be safe.
BTW, have you seen the video of the UK Home Secretary, with the “We police by consent” statement?
This is perhaps the dumbest statement ever made by a top law enforcement official in the face of riots, arson, looting, and general lawlessness.

Good for you!!!
While we don’t trust our government to do the right thing and support you guys, know what we the people do. We’re seeing the beginnings of this in some of our bigger cities and know that what we see happen to you is often our future.
Prayers up to protect you and defeat this evil and confound their plans.
