What colour is Mark Duggan? Mark Duggan is the man who was shot dead by the police on Thursday in Tottenham. The Tottenham riots last night were sparked when people protested his death. This morning, I first heard of the riots on the radio, then on the television. I read articles on the internet. But oddly, no one would say what colour Mark Duggan was. No one would say the unsayable, that the rioters were, I suspect on the whole, black. Then, finally, Toby Young’s Telegraph blog post on the riots was published. Is Toby Young the only journalist out there who will dare say that these riots are about race?
Still, one paper did carry a photo of Mr Duggan. When I saw the photo, it confirmed what I knew instinctively: black youths once again have set London alight.
Some of the black kids I used to teach will tell you that the riots are absolutely justified. A number of adults would agree with them. Everywhere I read that the protest was understandable because “people are very angry”.
I’d like to know what they’re angry about. Mark Duggan is dead. He was shot by the police in a shootout. Duggan was in a minicab and shots were fired from both the cab and the police elsewhere. A police officer was hurt in the incident and a bullet was found lodged in a police radio. Either Duggan was shooting at the police or the driver of the minicab was. Either Duggan was in the wrong place at the wrong time and his death is a terrible tragedy – he was caught in the crossfire – or he shot at the police and the police defended themselves. Whatever the explanation, the police did not kill this man in cold blood.

I realize that as a woman posting to a Brit on FR I would be subject to the usual woman-baiting that comes when the Brit has run out of ideas but I still despise it. There should be no place on FR for misogyny directed at conservative women. I would imagine the mods feel the same way, sweetie.
And sweetie, everyone on this board has monikers that do not match up with their real nationalities or personalities. My only knowledge of you comes from your endless corrections of Americans’ “misperceptions” of England. You may write and post a great deal about Scotland but then I don't follow your every sainted word here on FR.
But one thing I do know: at this time in history, the only place for Jews is either Israel or America. Not Britain and certainly not Europe. As an honest person, I fear that will not always be true in America. Our universities are hotbeds of anti-Israel, anti-Zionism and anti-Jew. We have a strange president who I fear is pro-Islam.
I fear for our future. If you were honest, you'd fear for your country's future as well.

As to my use of sweetie, you are making a mountain out a molehill: my use is pure sarcasm, if you were male, i’d use mate. You are seeing misogyny where it dosent exist. If I am ‘making a fool’ of you, its for not reading my obvious moniker, and that is a gender-neutral point.
You have now accused me of being anti-Israel and misogynist in one evening. You are getting far too agitated by my perfectly fair and polite comments. The fact that you fire out such serious accusations/slanders is both ridiculous and actually appalling.
And there is a perfectly fine future for British Jews, the idea that the UK is now dangerous for Jews is ridiculous. And I am sure British Jews would be the first to tell you so.
You made a point about misogyny by making a snide comment about me being British. I see the irony/hypocrisy, do you?.
And I correct lies and myths about Britain, not just England. Sadly most Americans confuse the two. As Scotland and England and Scotland and Britain overlap on so much, I will correct points which are just as salient to me as they would be if I was English. Same goes for points on Wales and NI, even Ireland.

Seemingly its ok for her to comment on Britain and make ridiculous assertions, but we Brits arent allowed to respond and stand up for our country.
I’m most amused by the prevalent belief that all guns are illegal. My grandad likes to hunt birds and I’m not quite sure how he’s to do that without a gun. Maybe make a gun gesture with his hand and go “pew pew pew”?
To say there isn’t a place for Jews in the UK is such utter nonsense. I grew up in an area just north of Newcastle. Never had a problem being Jewish. I lived in London for a bit. Never had a problem being Jewish. The only time it was an issue involved a group you, I, and most Brits don’t care for.
For what it’s worth, everyone on the British side of my family holds the same opinion of the Irgun. It’s a sore spot because my father and his side (who aren’t British) hold the opposite view. My grandad has come close to throwing a few punches at my father for constantly defending the Irgun’s actions.
And the only Jews I dislike ARE those two murderous groups.
I support Israel (not blindly), although like you, as a objective Brit, I disagree with some policies. I am a huge admirer of the Jews and Judaism, its values (like the primacy of education) and am a huge fan of the Israeli military.

I love Israel. Tel Aviv is one of my favorite cities. I love Israelis. I especially love the very handsome IDF soldiers LOL. But, I still believe groups like the Irgun and Lehi committed terrorist acts. Maybe to some that makes me a self-hating Jew. I don’t know. It’s a bit like saying you must hate all the Irish because you hate the IRA.
I’m sure she knows I’m British. I don’t know whether or not she was able to infer that I’m Jewish.
