Fear will always trump kindness on a people conditioned under it as the Afghan people are....as long as the Taliban exists that is how it will be. Further they know well the troops will be leaving so their allegiance will remain at best neutral in order to survive whoever is in charge at any given moment.
Until the religious leaders and the Koran are silenced nothing the US does is going to change their way of life. War will always be the norm.
There is comfort in what is familiar even if it’s abusive and diabolic....the Afghan people will not be changed by any outside influence.
Roger, that! Worst thing we ever did was annouce our time table for pulling troops out.
Not much has changed there since the 7th century and most of the people are perfectly fine with it. All they want is to grow their wheat, rice and opium, smoke alittle, or alot of hash, and treat their females like crap.
Very few worry about tomorrow because they can’t see past the hand in front of their face. Inshallah (God willing) is there guiding principle. What every happens, happens because of allah. (Except if they can blame us for it).
Right now our troops are in a no win situation and until things change, i.e. ROE and get back to really fighting a war, we’ll never be truely successful there. (in my humble opinion)
