I have offered up “incremental smaller steps” in other discussions (with others) in the past. I understand the need to have a practical solution.

Here is an example of one of the ideas. The local public school district in my area currently spends $11,000 + per student, with over 50% of that money coming from state aid. If instead of spending the $11,000 we issued $5000 dollars into a state and parent controlled account that the parent could then spend on the educational needs of there child. (An instant 55% savings for the tax payer) We have two private/church schools in the area that charge well below the $5000 amount so a parent could choose to send their child to that private school. I would think that some business person would also look into starting a school that could compete for the students, so we would have true competition in education. There could also be a requirement that the money not used in a given year returns to the state and that this would be a temporary (transitional) payment...eventually the parent has to take full responsibility for the education of their child. I for one would not use any of the money to educate my seven children...as I use no government money today. This would mean that the $35,000 that would be entered into my account would all go back to the state. Imagine if ONE state would start something like this...property taxes would drop, income taxes would drop, children would be better educated. I could see this as a major drawing point for families to move to a state...meaning an increase in population causing business growth. And the biggest benefit would be that parents would take personal responsibility for the education of their children...so the children will be better off.

Seriously those are good ideas. Funds could be used by homeschoolers as well. If they wanted. Problem would be private sector taking the risk to start the initial schools....and getting teacher unions out of their faces. Heck I’d be happy to start with vouchers and let it grow from there.
Nothing’s going to happen until we get Obama out of here
