Well, I decided to go to the Ozaukee Fair tonight. It was lovely. I don’t know your relatives’ children’s ages but they have activities for all ages. The little ones have their own ride section.

You buy a string of tickets and pay for your rides with tickets. There are llamas & goats. There are about 6 camels, and you can get up on one of them and have your picture taken. You can also get your picture taken with a live monkey, if you want. I think it’s $8 bucks if they take it and $4 bucks if you use your own camera.

Of course they should visit the Republican tent which is next to the Farm Bureau tent and across the aisle from the cream puff tent. The Republicans give all children free balloons and they don’t even make the kids promise to vote Republican when they grow up.

The Farm Bureau tent has the best meals and places to sit. They start out with breakfast which is served starting (I think) at 7 AM. The Fair is not open until 8, but the FB feeds all the kids that have spent the night with their animals. The public is welcome too. It is always a good breakfast (with free milk, including chocolate) and it’s cheap. They serve hamburgers, brats, and beer the rest of the day.

There are all the usual exhibits, and there is entertainment all day and night. All of the entertainment is free. I’m sure that there will be more schedules available tomorrow.

Then there is the BIG midway with bigger and scarier rides. And lots of games. And lots of animal exhibits. I only looked at the poultry and rabbits tonight. I’ll probably go back to check out the horses and cows.

And no fights.

Thanks for the great information! They decided to go north to their country place and spend the weekend, paint the bedroom up there.

The fair sounds wonderful...wish I were there.

PS, their kids are grown and married. They have very young grandkids, all under 5 (I think, if I’ve kept track) but they would have enjoyed the Republican tent.

This whole thing makes me sad. I love the State Fair. I grew up a mile or so away and spent many days of my childhood at the fair.

My great uncle was superintendent of the fair grounds some time back in the 30s or 40s and lived in the house that became the administration building in State Fair Park before the current administration building was built in the late 80s. I never met him, but my family always had a soft spot for the fair.

Because of work, I spent time at the Waukesha County Fair this year and I’m not sure I’ll bother going to the State Fair this year. I may stick to county fairs and avoid the rabble.
