Gov. Scott Walker has ordered the Wisconsin State Patrol to provide additional law enforcement help at the Wisconsin State Fair after several incidents involving rampaging youths broke out on the fairgrounds and on the streets outside Thursday night.
Cullen Werwie, Walker's spokesman, said the governor made the decision after reviewing the events from Thursday night, in which at least 24 people were arrested.
"We will continue to evaluate the situation and make any adjustments necessary to ensure a successful and safe event. We will be doing everything in our power to ensure that parents feel that it is safe to bring their children to the world's best fair," Werwie said in a statement.
Also, Rick Frenette, CEO of the fair, announced that, because of the violence overnight, the fair would immediately implement a policy in which no youths under 18 years of age would be allowed onto the grounds after 5 p.m. without a parent or guardian who is at least 21 years of age. There will be no changes at the Midway.
Frenette, a veteran of 40 years in the fair management business, said he had never implemented such a policy before. The International Association of Fairs and Expositions said there is only one other fair in the country -- the South Carolina State Fair -- that has such a policy.
On Friday afternoon, Mayor Tom Barrett announced an increase in police presence at community events planned for the week. He said there would be no tolerance for violence at festivals and that perpetrators will be prosecuted -- regardless of race.

I agree. The younger blacks (yes all of you liberals visiting this site - I’m specifcally naming a racial group as responsible) only look for a hassle when there’s at least a 4 on 1 advantage in their favor.
Well...here’s some braking news.
I get a certain satisfaction in seeing these black folks riot. We had that same stuff happen here in 2001. Until then, younger people who were not around in 1968 (the last time the animals burned their own cages here), would not believe that their friends of color had a little secret haterism up their sleeve. Its an object lesson to our liberal youth.
You have to watch yourself around a crowd of urban black people most anywhere in the US. One minute they are smiling and sipping on a 40 and before you know it they are pulling some citizens out of their cars and giving a beatdown.
There is a reason why persons of color are 13-16 times more likely to commit a robbery where the victim is injured than their white counterparts. Repeating that statistic is racist, just like saying that most Native Americans are alcoholic.
Well, you’ve got 2 more days to hit the FREE Ozuakee County Fair in Cedarburg. And, if you like Irish music, Theiss & O’Connor are performing under the grandstand today — around noon, or 1 pm. hey are worth the trip.
This actually needed to be said? Really??? How sad is that, and how far we've fallen.
Arrests for what? Loitering? I don’t agree with that kind of deal either. But I do wonder why 30 of them were all standing in a corner. It is, however, last I checked, still a free country...of course the way the current administration is going, they’ll be ruining that too.
