Somewhere, Chief Miles O’Brien is smiling.
For those who may not know, here is a SHORT SUMMARY of that "Star Trek: DS9" episode, from memory-alpha.org:
"The Wounded"

When Chief O'Brien's former commander, Captain Benjamin Maxwell, apparently goes rogue (!) -- the Enterprise is ordered to apprehend him before his actions result in another war between the Federation and the Cardassian Union...

-- snip --

...Maxwell gazes at the Enterprise through his window and is surprised to see O'Brien enter.

He points a phaser at O'Brien, but the transporter chief isn't armed. Maxwell wants Picard to board the Cardassian vessel, but O'Brien knows he won't. Maxwell is in disbelief that a Federation starship would attack another to protect the enemy, and O'Brien says he will.

Maxwell asks what happened to the war, which O'Brien tells him that there is no war. Maxwell says the Cardassians live to make war, and that neither of them are the same.

They start reminiscing about Setlik III, and Maxwell asks who that fellow was that used to follow O'Brien around like a puppy. O'Brien replies that it was Will Kayden.

When Maxwell doesn't respond, O'Brien says "Stompy".

Maxwell then asks "What was that song he used to sing, the one I liked?"

O'Brien begins singing soon joined by Maxwell:

"The minstrel boy to the war has gone,
In the ranks of death you'll find him...
His father's sword he hath girded on,
And his wild harp slung be-hind him...

Land of song, said the warr-ior bard,
Tho all the world betrays... thee...,
One sword at least thy rights shall guard,
One faithful harp shall praise thee."

It becomes clear to O'Brien that, as Picard suggested, Captain Maxwell is still traumatized over the loss of his wife and children during the war and this is causing, in part, his irrational actions.

Maxwell realizes that he will not be able to win this fight...

Sean Connery also sings a powerful version of this song at the end of "The Man Who Would be King" --
Here is THAT video, also on YouTube:

Sean Connery also sings a powerful version of this song at the end of "The Man Who Would be King"
...as does Chief O'Brien, in one of the Star Trek episodes...
...but those are all more DEPRESSING storylines.
I prefer this more UPLIFTING version, from the end of "The Undefeated."

Here are what I believe to be are the COMPLETE LYRICS
for the version of "Minstrel Boy" sung by Amanda
at the end of the soundtrack from "The Undefeated" --
combining verses from the sources posted previously:
The minstrel boy to the war is gone,
In the ranks of death ye will find him;
His father's sword he hath girded on,
And his wild harp slung behind him;

"Land of Song!" said the warrior bard,
"Tho' all the world betray thee,
One sword, at least, thy rights shall guard,
One faithful harp shall praise thee!"

.

The Minstrel fell! But the foeman's chain
Could not bring his proud soul under;
The harp he lov'd ne'er spoke again,
For he tore its chords asunder;

And said "No chains shall sully thee,
Thou soul of love and bravery!
Thy songs were made for the pure and free
They shall never sound in slavery!"

.

That martyr first, whose eagle eye
could pierce beyond the grave;
who saw his Master in the sky,
and called on him to save.

Like him, with pardon on his tongue,
in midst of mortal pain,
he prayed for them that did the wrong:
who follows in his train?

Then he may play on his harp in peace
In a world such as God [Heaven] intended.
For the bitterness of man must cease,
And every battle must be ended.
.
And every battle must be ended.

Hi, propalinjew — It was for people like YOU that I posted this thread!

I was also very MOVED by hearing this version of “Minstrel Boy” at the end of “The Undefeated” — but very FRUSTRATED that I could not find anything about this “Amanda” anywhere online.

Now, thanks to the POWER of Free Republic, finding her song is MUCH easier! :)

See, for example, a current search for “Amanda ‘Minstrel Boy’” on Google:

I just saw "The Undefeated" again last night, and this time I wrote down the name of the artist who sang the OPENING version of "Minstrel Boy" ...
...which played during the Sarah Palin "home movies" ...
...right after all the nasty things said about Governor Palin, at the very beginning of the movie:
Morgan Keene
And, this appears to be her YouTube channel:
momokeene

Do you know if there will ever be a Morgan Keene version of MINSTREL BOY available from the beginning of THE UNDEFEATED?

It's such a sweet, innocent version as a backdrop to Sarah as a baby and young girl.

Morgan was 13 at the time and her sweet voice reminds me of The Peaceable Kingdom where "A little child shall lead them."

Josh, if you have any influence at all, can you please see if they will make the superior Morgan Keene version available also?
