Well AB, I hope you’re right.
Bear in mind that the Tea Party guys helped get this before the public eye. The pubs wanted a quick and dirty deal to relieve their anguish and fear.
Getting this kind of thing in front of the public...because frankly guys, I consider myself somewhat of a political junkey and I never even knew there was such a thing as a debt ceiling....is how the Democrats win.
And for the record, I don’t think that Boehner was against CCB as you indicated was my accusation in an earlier post. Frankly, I don’t think ANY Gop guy was against CCB; they’d have all been elated had it passed fairly.
But this was a bill that put a cap on the debt ceiling, cut spending dramatically and required a balanced budget. That bill was never gonna pass. I do think the Tea Party types, honing in on Michelle Bachmann for one, felt it was what their constituents wanted and nothing less.
The bill was, to Boehner’s and even the rest of the Blue Blood GOP’s credit (and I seldom give them any credit) put up and this too was part of getting this issue out in front of the American public.
But even a hardliner like me knows it was too much right now.
Maybe when we get the GOP prez, the pub House and senate in a couple of years.
We are always patted on the heads and told we must wait.
It gets old.
Here’s my understanding what’s up for debate now.
Debt ceiling raised till PAST 2012 (a BIG victory for Obamer as this is what he wanted most. It’s always about him and not the country.)
Cuts only, a trillion first six months. 1.8 cuts rest of 2012. How to enforce? Across the board cut recommended by some kind of super-committee. If not coming to conclusion than an across-the-board cut automatic to include ALL parts of the gubmint, Medicare, defense.
Do I have the gist?
We are always patted on the heads and told we must wait.
It gets old.
But it is the reality. Can you articulate any other way we win in the Senate?
