It’s a bit unfathomable - except that it’s highly UNlikely that this event ever occurred.
They can’t “break in your door” without a search warrant; and if he “broke away” from the officers to fling himself on his dog, they would have shot him as full of holes as a Swiss cheese - assuming he even COULD break away.
It sounds very much to me as if he stepped away from his computer for a minute, and a teenage son decided to have some teenage fun.
