You don’t get your Miranda rights read to you unless you are arrested.
I don’t know about that...a woman I worked with years ago once had a Treasury Agent of some sort call her to ask her some questions about another person and he read her the Miranda over the telephone...made no sense to me or to her at the time but it is what happened. I don’t know if he did it to intimidate her or what- she did ask him if she was under arrest, funny stuff. I have no idea what the guys function was, he was doing some sort of investigation. Treasury agents back then could be anything from Secret Service to Customs to whatever else was under Treasury. We thought it was a hoax or prank since we were in a construction office and worked with some onery men. The guy they questioned her about did end up in all sorts of trouble though- he was smuggling in gold somewhere, ended up in prison. Crazy though, just as crazy as what this guy said but was real.
