The only solution to unfaithful government is a faithful people. People must wake up and realize what is happening. People must care about their country and do what they can to protect it. Madison told us in Federalist #44 that if we can’t depend on the checks and balance of government to remedy violations of the Constitution, then the responsibility will fall on the people:
“In the first instance, the success of the usurpation will depend on the executive and judiciary departments, which are to expound and give effect to the legislative acts; and in the last resort a remedy must be obtained from the people who can, by the election of more faithful representatives, annul the acts of the usurpers.”
It all goes back to the People. Voters created the disaster we are facing not politicians isolated from them. If things were the result of mere politicians they would be easy to change.
