‘That’s when kids were still skipped, flunked_____’

Over 50 years ago in Queens, NY, my spouse knew of a young man who had been in the same ‘grouping’ of kids from year to year, then was ‘demoted’ to a lower group - don’t know what level of school - sorry.

That young man withdrew and became sullen and inactive. Needless to say he was very affected by the demotion.
Guessing this happened to plenty of kids to one degree or another if/when their status changed - sad.

That wasn't what I was talking about; however, it sounds as though that boy was just passed along,or he suddenly began to not do enough work to keep up. It's a shame that his parents weren't more involved ( talk with his teacher, get him a tutor, supervise his homework/studying at home, etc. ), so that he was not so emotionally devastated.

OTOH, it was something that needs to be done more often now,instead of all the PC "social" promotions.
