Washington (CNN) House Speaker John Boehner leveled tough words at fellow Republicans Wednesday, telling conservatives who are unhappy his bill doesn't go far enough to "Get your ass in line."
Boehner's admonishment came during a closed-door meeting, during which House GOP leaders sought to rally support for their debt bill, according to two Republican sources who attended the meeting.
The Ohio Republican told members he was working hard and didn't want to turn around and not see an army behind him.
House Majority Leader Rep. Eric Cantor of Virginia also said it was time to pull together and pass the House GOP debt bill, instead of feeding a storyline that pits Republican against Republican.
But the meeting turned into exactly that-a venting session with Republicans turning on each the other-and exposing an ugly split among the rank and file.

It’s much more than a policy fight.
You want to know why there is no plan to actually “deal” with the problem... they cannot figure out how the problem can possibly be solved... not in our lifetimes or those of our children. The only real solutions are things that these power hungry "politicians" refuse to do because it will change their world of power and wealth forever.

If we can slow the rate of increase, that’s a start. If we can slow the rate of increase of government to lower than the rate of increase in the economy, even better. To change things we need to radically change the economy: I am proposing a Bastardy Tax and Teenage Work Camps myself as revenue enhancers.
Time for natural selection to do it's thing.
Under normal circumstances I might agree, but for your information, the debt is about to throw us off the hyperinflation cliff. When it takes a wheelbarrow of cash to pay for a loaf a bread, maybe you will get it then. This country does not have the luxury of doing anything but a forced drastic austerity program. Your position is nothing but appeasement.
So with all those factors (correct I may add), you don't think there will be a massive anti-incumbancy? I disagree. I think there will be as strong "throw the bums out" sentiment for president and congress. Brought to you by the 25% "I's" in the middle.
That is why your bretheren are invading my state (Texas) like locusts.
You are calling our economic survival a policy fight? You really need to read up on what's going on!!!! Honestly, this is as much if not more of a threat than WWII.
I escaped there first of this ear after 24 years.
It looks like your solution will be passed today, Rush thinks as I do that the Repubs are the suckers in this gambit, unfortunately we wind up paying, as we always do.
I suspect that after this deal reveals its true purpose, the Republican party will be finished, because a third party will arise, and that will lead to one of two outcomes, one being a true tyrannical government. The other option is obvious, but less likely. In any case my children will have to take up the battle.
YES!
Our government is poisoning our economy and our future each time they agree to allow spending above the massive debt we already owe. How many doses of poison will we be able to endure before we succumb?
As far as I am concerned, anyone who wants to continue to poison us or compromise on the poison dosage is doing great harm...i.e. war on our future. There is no room for compromise ANYMORE. The time for that is past.
I’ve wanted to escape for a decade, but my wife is the youngest of 9 and all but one of her siblings lives in this God forsaken state. That has been the issue. A happy wife is a happy life so here we stay...for now.
I listened to Rush today, he seemed to be quite congratulatory of the GOP today. I’m glad the Boehner bill passed, not surprised the Dems killed it minutes later.
I don’t think the GOP will be finished on this stuff because people will eventually be smart enough to realize a 3rd party gave us 2 terms of Clinton...3rd parties don’t work in this country despite being tried for 200+ years.
Wait...on one hand people here are saying go into default and nothing major will happen if we do. You’re saying we’re fighting for our economic lives...which is it?
Long term I agree, but right now it’s a policy fight.
LLS
Much of what you say I agree with. We do owe too much and both parties did this. The thing is, we owe it, we spent it, we need to pay it. I agree with pretty much everything else you said in the paragraph. Troubling times.
Taxes are not the way... there is not enough money to pay off the debt... even if they took everything from everyone and left us with nothing. We have to go back to 2007 spending levels and cut from there. Right now that is impossible... but we need a bill that at least turns our bow into the proper direction... all boehner’s plan does is cut the throttle from 100% to 99.997%. We need to throttle down to 60%. That will have to wait until we control it all... but OUR leadership has controlled it all and they were almost as bad as the dims so we need to primary all of them and start our new government with as many new Tea Party republicans as possible. boehner, mcconnel and the rest are finished... or the republican party is. One way or the other... they are done.

If the dims get their way and futher open the "blank check" mentality on our currency, the $ will soon become worthless due to spiraling hyperinflation. On the other hand a short term default and resultant direction to fiscal responsiblitly will actually help us in the long run.
We have come to the proverbial fork in the road.
Problem with that thinking is the “short term” help you are describing means Obama wins again and the GOP is thrown out of the HOUSE. Thus, you are actually making the problem worse.
In my view, better to get a small victory now (which means some cuts, no tax increases but extend the debt ceiling), beat Obama in 2012, get the Senate and then GO HARD at cuts at that point. If you do it too soon, you are setting yourself up for liberal governance for the next 10 years.
