The Tea Party, the most welcome political development since the Goldwater insurgency in 1964, lacks only the patience necessary when America lacks the consensus required to propel fundamental change through our constitutional system of checks and balances. If Washingtons trajectory could be turned as quickly as Tea Partyers wish while conservatives control only one-half of one of the two political branches their movement would not be as necessary as it is. Fortunately, not much patience is required.
The Goldwater impulse took 16 years to reach fruition in the election of Ronald Reagan. The Tea Party can succeed in 16 months by helping elect a president who will not veto necessary reforms. To achieve that, however, Tea Partyers must not help the incumbent achieve his objectives in the debt-ceiling dispute.

Exactly!
George, sometimes you’re spot-on. Other times, such as this one... you’re not.
Now, shut up. You’re not helping.
George is smarter than we are smart.
George sWill go home!
Another inside-the-beltway drone.
IN the end, this fight is primarily political - we do not have the power in the Senate and WH.
McConnell and George Will have good points on a difficult situation. Not sure I’d go with it yet, depends on how far the other efforts get and what they contain.
Cut, Cap and Balance looks best to me now, but it may soon die in Senate.
I would much rather read a story about how George Will is suffering from a 40’ tapeworm, with 6 inches of it’s tail protruding from his sorry ass.
AND, he always asked a question 5 seconds before the end of class bell and never laughed at the jokes from the class cutup... that would be me.
George Will is part of the problem.
Spin yer bow tie and STFU, Will.
“while conservatives control only one-half of one of the two POLITICAL branches”
LOL, Will. As if the judicial branch has not become thoroughly politicized!
So rather than do what’s best for our country right now, punt the ball and let Obama scramble around with it, easily tackled for a loss, with no goal line in sight. The McConnell plan basically runs out the clock until 2012, and hopes to win the re-match.
That our establishment GOP: All politics, no principle. Is McConnell up for re-election in 2012? Hope so.
All the Tea Party has to do is give up its values and get behind the establishment. Not bloody likely!
“... incumbent achieve his objectives in the debt-ceiling dispute.”
The President wants a Grand Bargain. He wants tax hikes.
