Americans are unimpressed with their political leaders' handling of the debt ceiling crisis, with a new CBS News poll showing a majority disapprove of all the involved parties' conduct, but Republicans in Congress fare the worst, with just 21 percent backing their resistance to raising taxes.
President Obama earned the most generous approval ratings for his handling of the weeks-old negotiations, but still more people said they disapproved (48 percent) than approved (43 percent) of what he has done and said.
What Do You Think? Will lawmakers forge a debt deal by Aug. 2?

CBS News senior White House correspondent Bill Plante reports there was no visible progress over the weekend, despite warnings from debt rating agencies that the nation's credit rating could drop, even if there is a deal, if government spending isn't cut.

You mean the same GOP, that held all 3 branches of govt not that long ago, who never vetoed a spending bill either. Those that think like you kept saying “give us a majority and things will change”.
The GOP controlled all three branches and nothing changed.
Does this mean I am a GOP hater?
A lot of bs as usual.
CBS? Only Kooks,Pedophiles, and Communists watch that crapola!
I prefer to describe that period with praise for securing two reliable Supreme Court Justices (that alone is sufficient cause to prefer the GOP) and for having a president who recognized our enemies and DID SOMETHING ABOUT IT getting rid of three terrorist states: Iraq, Afganistan and Libya (running Saddam’s nuclear weapons research program completely unknown to the CIA). Libya was neutered by Bush which makes Urkel’s attacks on it particularly stupid though typical.
Now I did not like Bush’s strategy of trying to buy off the Democrats but even so that period was infinitely preferable to the current one which even you will have to admit.
“And yet Brett Hume was just on Fox using this pole to say the Republicans will get the blame if Obama shuts down the govt. with a veto of their budget.”
It’s amazing- without fail, the MSM produces some bogus poll right before something important is about to take place, and people fall for it every single time...
Brett Hume is probably correct, for the reason that, thanks to a Democrat Senate under Reid, Obama will never HAVE to veto anything - they will just kill it in the Senate.
So Reid and Obama do nothing, point fingers at the Republicans, and the media complicitly feeds that narrative.
Half of Americans don’t pay federal income taxes. Why should they care if taxes go up on somebody else? Why should they support the Republicans?
WE ARE DOOMED
It's a D I S G R A C E to the Party that our past Presidential standard bearer (McCain on Hannity) would cite this CRAP as a reason to adopt the McConnell plan.
24% of those polled identified themselves as Republicans and 40% as independents.
Only 810 polled all together and they didn't even bother to find out if they were US Citizens, much less registered or likely voters.
Besides, HALF of the Republican voters are p!ssed at the way the DC GOP is handling this...because THEY ARE CAVING!
Weren’t we a little light in the senate makeup also ?
Things do not look good but generally it is the 1/3 of the population that cares enough about something to change things that moves societies forward.
Demoralize the enemy and inspire the troops.
Because of Jumpin’ Jim Jeffords the traitor.
Yes (see graph)
You do know, the GOP could have cut spending, appointed two supreme court judges and fought a just war .... all at the same time.
You’re right that a small energetic 1/3 can drive a much larger organization or society. But that 1/3 in the United States is becoming more liberal and decadent. Particularly the rich. Wealth, alas, does not promote virtue.
Note the rise of the guilty rich, decline of social conservatism and church-going among the rich, rich feminist pro-abort working women, and wealthy donors to pro-homosexual campaigns. Also weighing down the once-virtuous 1/3 is its own growing dependence on entitlements. And of course, the 1/3 will always be outnumbered by the great mass of poor voters who cherish entitlements and will never give them up.
WE ARE DOOOOOOOMED
The GOP controlled all three branches and nothing changed.
