Michele Bachmann Should Not 'Get a Pass' on Past Membership in Anti-Catholic Church
Catholic Online ^ | 7/17/2011 | Deacon Keith A. Fournier

The news and blogosphere is filled with responses to the July 14, 2011 story by Joshua Green, the Senior Editor of the Atlantic, entitled "Michele Bachmann's Church Says the Pope Is the Antichrist." That is because it raises a serious matter which should not be taken lightly, and one which the candidate must address. First, let me share some personal context. I am what is often called a "revert" to the Catholic Church, someone who returned to the Church of my childhood after a long search for the truth. I love being a Catholic Christian. I hold an undergraduate degree and a master's degree in Catholic theology. I am a dissertation away from obtaining a PhD in Catholic Moral Theology. I am also a member of the Clergy, a Deacon. However, I write this article as a private and very concerned citizen.

This crap is as absurd as when the left goes dumpster diving into a candidates past to find a Confederate flag connection they can attach to them to justify calling them racist....which they were going to do anyway.

“I hate all Catholics because they say I’m going to hell because I am not Catholic”

Sorry, I cannot join you in your hate-fest, I follow Jesus Christ and He loves them AND us. I bet you didn’t mean to use such a strong word anyways, am I corect?

Uh. This is an issue. She needs to explain why she attended a church that flat committed blasphemy against the Catholic church. I want to hear her explanation before I vote for her.

Right after liberal HATE America most Catholics explain themselves.

I'd love to see a Catholic GOP nominee, but I don't see it happening this round. Bachmann stopped attending that anti-Catholic Church two years ago, so she clearly didn't do it with the prez bid in mind. Thats good enough for me.
Yes, I concur, and I wish it was Bobby Jindal. That being said Santorum is Catholic, but I guess he doesn't have the quantities interested? I love his pro-life message. As far as Bachmann, I enjoyed this article as I didn't know exactly what was going on, but, regardless, I don't see Michele Bachmann as being anti-Catholic, no matter what her faith professed. (In other words, do ALL Lutherans know that Luther depicted the Pope being borne from a she-devil's a**hole?) Michele will have to explain, and she will. And after she does, someone could hand her a pamphlet explaining RCIA, or mail her the link to Catholics Come Home, with a CC to Sarah as well. :)

She did use such strong words. Post #89.

I'm shocked I tell you. Shocked.

-AGAIN- with this nerd’s article! I don’t like MB much at this point, but this cheese weasel’s -very- selective ‘concern’ article and feeble hatchet job makes me spew. I detest this sort of mewling puke. About 1/3 of the article is this gentle, concerned person admiring himself in the mirror, and praising himself for his great heart and tolerance.

Meanwhile, Barry’s 20-year membership in an anit-American and anti-white church is no big deal.

Why hasn’t Boehner even made noises about it?

Maybe he is afraid he would be condemned as a supporter of the anti-Christ.

All too true, but what Donohue (whom I generally respect) and the others are doing is stupidly destructive. From a policy point of view, a Bachman presidency would advance the major social objectives of the Church. If we get mired in what Roman Catholics and Protestants have said about each over since the the Thirty Years War, Obamalini and his friends will be thrilled. Bachman poses no threat at all to the Church. Dohohue should have been smart enough to figure this out - and he normally is very shrewd.

Anything which isn’t the Genuine(TM) Roman Catholic Church would be “flat committing such blasphemies.” You might as well say you will only vote for a Roman Catholic in good standing. That’s your choice, but if it gets your and yours more Obama rule that’s your responsibility.

I hate all Catholics because they say I’m going to hell because I am not Catholic.

Oh, THAT's a real Christian statement.

Of course this is not true but the Catholic teaching has been that all non-Catholics are going to hell.

No one knows where they are going upon the flesh's passing. We Catholics certainly don't. This morning, the priest's homily was very much about this and he said, isn't it wonderful that only God will be our judge on that matter. It's true. We just have to live by His commands and hope that our sins are forgiven when the time comes.

Who cares what her church says? It is Lutheran/ think Martin Luther. But guess what? The Reformation has been settled, pretty much, and there are bigger threats on the horizon than rehashing which Protestant Church stands for what.

We are Catholic converts after 20 years in various Protestant churches. We loved our time as Protestants, learned so much, and are so happy to be Catholic. This just is what it is, about some of the Protestants. It’s nothing to what the Mormons really believe, and NONE of that holds a candle to what Obama and his Slimy Ilk believe. THAT is the fight we need to fight.

I personally do not care if Michelle B and I agree theologically. I want a leader with common sense in the Oval Office.

Dang, I think this in-fighting is so destructive. Towards what possible end does it work?

Somehow that hypothetical threat didn’t keep him from running for Congress.

With the abundance of pedophilic priests and their destructive effect, the Catholic Church sure doesn't need the likes of Michelle Bachmann to be a detraction.

I'm just trying to point out how ridiculous is this whole debate. I happen to be LCMS and I certainly do not believe in the papacy but also believe Catholics go to Heaven if they believe in the same creed as I.

Brice only wanted to stir up trouble when this whole thing had been debated to death.

I don't care what religion someone is when it comes to deciding who will get my vote. I have far more in common with my Catholic friends and relatives than I do with some in my own church.

AMEN! If the Kenyan Marxist stays in office none of this will matter.
