Obama on Raising Taxes: I’m Just Giving the People What They Want!
National Review ^ | 7/15/11 | Andrew Stiles

Posted on 07/15/2011 12:58:50 PM PDT by markomalley

The Hill reports on President Obama’s press conference earlier today:

President Obama on Friday kept up the pressure on Republicans to agree to revenue increases in a deal to raise the debt ceiling, claiming 80 percent of the public supports Democrats’ demand for tax increases.

“The American people are sold,” Obama said. “The problem is members of Congress are dug in ideologically.”

Throughout the press conference, Obama blasted Republicans for ignoring what he said is the will of the American people by rejecting tax increases that would balance out spending cuts in a debt package.

“This is not an issue of salesmanship to the American people,” Obama said.

“I hope [Republicans are] not just listening to lobbyists and special interests … I hope they’re listening to the American people as well,” Obama said, citing “poll after poll” showing Republican voters, as well as Democrats, believe in taking “a balanced approach” — including both increased revenues and spending cuts in a plan to cut the deficit.

Michael Warren at The Weekly Standard explains why Obama’s characterization of public sentiment is misleading at best.

But wait. It gets better:

Obama said he is still pushing for a “big” deal to raise the debt ceiling by the Aug. 2 deadline despite the hardening of positions on Capitol Hill.

“I always have hope,” Obama said. “Don’t you remember my campaign?”

The president signaled he is opposed to the “Cut, Cap and Balance” proposal that House Republicans coalesced around Friday morning, and he challenged the GOP to “be ambitious” in proposing a package to cut the deficit.

“If they show me a serious plan, I’m ready to move, even if it requires some tough sacrifices on my part,” Obama said.

More here. And more on the GOP push for a “Cut, Cap and Balance” proposal here on the homepage.

Republicans will soon have two comprehensive deficit reduction packages on the table — the Ryan budget and “Cut, Cap and Balance.” President Obama has given a speech, and that’s about it. Now he is publicly demanding a “serious” plan (i.e., one that raises taxes) from the GOP, having spoon fed the national media a bogus narrative that he has already put one forward (with lots of really significant spending cuts, take his word for it) in the negotiations. Uh, not quite.

So to answer your question, Mr. President, of course we remember your campaign. We’re still waiting for it to end.

it just hit me.

0bama claims 80% want higher taxes.

instead of raising taxes, have the Republicans propose that a line be added to the tax form where people can voluntarily add to the amount they’re going to pay on their income tax.

we don’t have to tell 0bama his statement is lost in space...the people will tell him loud and clear next april 15th!

I’m not an accountant, but I believe you can contribute extra taxes if you wish, and there is a space to do so on certain IRS forms.

Someone reading this will know for certain.

Keep it up Pres Obama, keep it up. With every ridiculous statement you make, your defeat becomes more and more certain. I love it when you lie to the American people and call them stupid—how to win friends and influence people.

Proof: Obama thinks taxpayers aren’t among “the people.”

Obama couldn’t sell me a $20 dollar bill for $15 dollars.

The only American people he represents are the same ones who elected Sheila Jackson Lee. The Braindead.

“0bama claims 80% want higher taxes.”

Then he should be happy if Congress puts a minimum 10% tax on the 45% of the people who don’t pay taxes today. After all it is only fair to share the pain.

you may well be right, but that’s not the point i’m trying to make.

0bama’s claim is that 80% WANT a tax hike.

instead of imposing a tax hike via law, make 0bama prove his claim by having people voluntarily give more via their 1040.

0bama’s claim is a lie...make him demonstrate it’s a lie!!!

Billionaire business mogul Penny Pritzker is a member of one of America’s richest families and was the Finance Chair for the presidential campaign of Barack Obama.  It was Pritzker that led the prolific, and illegal, fundraising that helped power Barack Obama’s presidential campaign.  She was the chair of Chicago-based Superior Bank’s board for five years.

Pritzker was into subprime lending before it became all the rage starting in around 2000.  Prtizker's chairmanship was to concentrate on sub prime lending, principally on home mortgages, but for a while in subprime auto lending, too, after the Pritzkers' bank acquired its wholesale mortgage organization division, Alliance Funding, in December 1992.

Back then they called it "predatory lending."

Superior Bank went belly up in 2001 with over $1 billion in insured and uninsured deposits; 1,406 depositors lost much of their life savings.  This collapse came amid harsh criticism of how Superior’s owners promoted sub-prime home mortgages.

On Nov. 1 [2002] the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. pointed the finger at Ernst & Young, Superior’s auditor, in a fraud suit filed in federal court here.  But that action came two months after a group of Superior depositors accused the bank’s owners and directors, including two members of the Pritzker family, of racketeering....

...Pritzker is chairman of Classic Residence by Hyatt, luxury senior living communities in 11 states; chairman of The Parking Spot, which owns and operates off-airport parking facilities in nine cities; chairman of the credit data company TransUnion and chairman of Pritzker Realty.  She also sits on the board of Global Hyatt and plays a role in numerous non-profit groups, including serving as chairman of the Olympic village portion of Chicago’s bid to win the 2016 Summer Games.

Evidently the Judas Goat in Chief is intent upon bleating and leading his sheeples through every one of them.
