I’ve read, and heard over the years of “all those wealthy Americans moving to Costa Rica to avoid taxes”, but never did I, nor still have not checked to see if I can I.D. what Political persuasion those folks are of.

Anybody have a clue? A link?

It’s not just wealthy Americans, it’s just Americans. There are quite a few retired American military in Costa Rica, which uses the US greenback as its currency.

Costs there are lower, as you might imagine, which makes a military pension go a lot further than it otherwise might.

In addition, having all that retired US military there has had the effect of providing the CR government with essentially very low cost lobbying. It also provides the US with low cost on the ground intel by which to monitor how things are really going in CR.

It’s worked out well for everyone so far. Pretty stable place. I have a couple of friends who retired down there. You can have a domestic staff down there for what you’d pay to have your house cleaned three days a week. Those wages would be considered plum wages as well. Those folks generally get treated like family, and vice versa.

Some military academy appointments have resulted from recommendations of the children of those domestics from retired generals, for example.

Register at welovecostarica.com and follow the the postings on the right hand side.
A lot of retired military and gubmint workers and an assortment of loons. The site’s founder and admin is a former UK Marine & Wall Streeter who dabbles in CR real estate and has no trust of the US Government whatsoever. Not a bad guy, but prone to buying into every conspiracy theory that arises. Also, everything’s Israel’s fault. Must be the heat.

Truth is, you can’t escape US Taxes as long as you’re a US citizen. They’ve got you coming and going.

I used to work with a lady that was moving to Costa Rica when she retired. She was batshit crazy, so I always assumed she was a democrat.
