NY-29’s Tom Reed, a Republican, voted no. He’s going to regret that vote.

I know people and businesses who are throwing their dead CF bulbs in the trash. Will the mercury in those bulbs contaminate the garbage men, the landfill, the ground water? Anyone know?

That was my question, what friggin “rules” require a 2/3 majority to pass a simple bill? It’s not like a constitutional amendment. And when they passed the original bill it didn’t require 2/3rds for passage. Besides it would have died in the Senate anyway.

I agree, but better yet, what friggin "rules" require the congress of the United States of America to vote on light bulbs in the first place?

This is INSANE!

It’s already been explained why 2/3 needed; I can’t change the thread title.

And Jorge Bush signed it into law too.

He sponsored the original bill doing away with real lightbulbs.

If the screw-in fluorescent bulbs were made in the USA they might be more attractive to the public. Either way we will be buying our illumination from the PRC along with nearly everything else.

Why do GOP proposals need 2/3rds of the vote while the fool Sen. McConnell wants to make it 1/3rd to raise the debt ceiling??

According to this article mercury vapors can be harmful to humans as well as the environment.

It’s funny that leftist bills always get 2/3rds to come up for a vote because the GOP didn’t want to be accused of being mean.

The only Republican “No” voter I’m familiar with is Morgan Griffith of Virginia, a freshman and former Speaker of the Virginia House of Delegates. I thought he was a pretty solid conservative, and would be interested if anyone knows why he voted No.

I’d rather wait for the bill that dismantles the EPA altogether, anyway...

President Palin can write an Executive Order and dump the bulbs when she gets moved in.

It makes no difference to me which politician put this in action, the result is the same.

As for me, I'll use candles and oil lamps before I ever buy and use a curly bulb.

Unless, they come up with “curly credits”, of course. Then I'll pay some stupid liberal to use three curlies for each one of my regular bulbs...

I wondered why a good conservative voted against it.

HR91 had over twice as many cosponsors as 2417 too.

It all beats my understanding. Don’t see the point of this Kabuki game.

Well, if folks can get class action suits against tobacco manufacturers for selling a dangerous product, then consumers should start filing them against CF manufacturers, whose products are also dangerous. And that states’ rights poison pill ain’t gonna fly as an excuse. That should never have been in the bill in the first place. Something more to thank ruling class Republicans for...

Go out and buy incandescent bulbs tomorrow to last the rest of your life!

The repeal of the lightbulb bill failed in the House and here’s the reason it failed:
Boehner brought the bill direct to the floor (suspended the procedure rules) rather than let it go through the committees which he should have done as soon as they took over the House.
This required a 2/3 majority rather than a simple majority. It would have passed on a simple Majority.

Need more to realize that Boehner is NOT a Conservative??
