Senate Republicans unexpectedly offered Tuesday to hand President Barack Obama new powers to avert a first-ever government default threatened for Aug. 2. Is that one worth a drink since it's happy hour? ; )

Under a proposal outlined by Sen. Mitch McConnell of Kentucky, Obama could request increases of up to $2.5 trillion in the government's borrowing authority in three separate installments over the next year, as long as he simultaneously proposed spending cuts of greater size. ![](http://ts4.mm.bing.net/images/thumbnail.aspx?q=1015630803307&id=49c7158010601a7af7d40d6edef280ec&url=http%3a%2f%2fpeople.delphiforums.com%2fnellie501%2fauntesther.jpg)

If Obama did not have Geithner to cook the books his way, I’d think he wouldn’t like this deal. It would keep this issue alive straight through campaign season. But Geithner would simply announce the debt ceiling won’t be a problem until...say...January 21, 2013.
Bad deal Mitch. I wish you hadn’t offered it.

There is an easier way of doing this, the GOP Controlled House can pass a debt ceiling increase with the same amount in cuts and send it to the Senate. It would then be out of the GOP’s hand and squarely on Reid and Obama.

This was the original idea all along, right?

The GOP lead by RINOs like Mitch McConnell (R) in the Senate will snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. This Yahoo/AP article discusses how Mitch McConnell want to give Ubama IMPERIAL POWERS. Mitch McConnell (R) wants Ubama re-elected.

Please hold the line! Mr. Mc Connell has not been given the authority by the voters to authorize such a deal. I hope the other Republicans don’t get sucked in and that they hold the line. We want an end to this ‘pass this and then tax to cover it’ type legislation. Back up to a line and hold it. Mitch, you don’t have the right to deal away our savings. Back off and let those negotiating do their job. Back off!

Thing is, each Obamao debt ceiling increase would be subject to a resolution of disapproval in Congress. If the resolution does pass, THE PRESIDENT COULD VETO IT AND ONLY BE STOPPED BY AN OVERRIDE (2/3 in each house)!
Obamao could thus raise the debt ceiling three times without ANY proposed cuts, and face little significant opposition in this divided Congress.
And that, my friends, is why I call the gentleman from Kentucky “B*tch” O’Connell.
