I do not think these statements are for “our” consumption, rather to run the liberal elites through the wrong door. I think you’re right. Not only is Boehenr saying no tax increases, he knows he couldn’t get them through the House even if he wanted them.

I’ve been thinking about that. Suppose it came down to passing a new budget with $4 trillion in spending cuts with social security and medicare being put on firm financial footing and all we had to give up in exchange was that the hedge fund managers lost their right to be taxed at less than half the rate everyone else pays. Wouldn’t we agree to that?
