Obama Offers to Raise Medicare Eligibility Age in Deficit-Reduction Talks (LIAR)

President Obama has offered to raise the Medicare eligibility age from 65 to 67 as part of a larger deficit-reduction package, a move sure to anger congressional Democrats who want to exclude entitlement programs from the ongoing talks.

Bipartisan talks that began Monday afternoon have ended. It's unclear what exactly was discussed, but two sources outside the White House confirmed to Fox News that Obama, during an earlier meeting with lawmakers Sunday night, offered to raise the eligibility age. There was also discussion of moving to a system that ties the Medicare qualification age to actuarial tables rather than a determination by Congress.

But since everyone will be covered by Obamacare, isn't this the equivalent of moving your money from your left pocket to your right pocket?

Moving the eligiblity age to actuarial table limits is going to hit the 40-year-old cohort really hard.

Not only is it moving money from one pocket to another, Medicare pays so very little for outpatient procedures. We will all be paying more for Medicare (it’s in the ObamanationCare bill), we will also be paying increased supplemental policy fees and 90% of outpatient procedures will be on the supplements. So, _everyone_ will beg to be on Medicaid. Which won’t pay anything much, either.

I had a benign growth removed last Spring. Total bill: $182. Medicare payment: $12.

This stuff is going to hurt the economy so bad, everyone will be asking:”What economy?”

Bingo. Obama is flailing in the wind right now. Throwing crap against the wall and hoping something sticks. The GOP has his number if they stick to their guns.

Sounds good. Let the senate vote on it first.

Yes.

Where’s the ‘IT’S A TRAP!’ graphic?

Obama is flailing, desperately trying to a get a ‘big deal’ so the Republicans will bit on higher taxes. Once the GOP bites, then they are on the HOOK for the ‘real deal’ which will water any spending cuts into dishwater and make the tax hikes the only real ‘pain’ in the bill.

Obama is throwing out bogus gotcha proposals that HIS OWN PARTY will shoot down.

Just amazing. Who woulda thought a Democrat would be the one to touch the third rail? I guess the demographics are telling them that the old voters are a lost cause at this point anyway. Flailing about? Exactly.

Obama just put himself in a catch 22. If he really did offer to raise the Medicare Age and reduce benefits then he loses the senior votes but if he didn't then all these “negotiations” was another Obama fraud.

Too many retired and soon-to-be-retired persons have paid too much in Medicare payroll taxes to deny any benefit from those payments for them.

But the plan requires reforms from the ground up, and an enrollment cut-off-age set (ending new enrollments after a certain date).

For our grand-children we need to encourage the establishment of private “buy-in while of working age, health insurance in retirement plans”, and encourage employer and employee contributions to such private plans.

We need to be sure that our grand children are not repeating our public obligation mistakes, so that they NOT bequeath debt-mountains to THEIR grand children.

No catch-22. If the GOP was dumb enough to bite, then he’d just pull the rug out from under the GOP, blast them for *both* cutting soc sec *and* raising taxes and get the media to cover for him and pretend he never was for it.

Democrats ALWAYS demagogue entitlements. Always.
