The latest addition to Michael Brown and Janet Johnsons family is too big for his britches literally.
When the Longview woman went into Good Shepherd Medical Center for a scheduled Cesarean section on Friday morning, she knew she was going to give birth to a big baby.
She just had no idea how big.
When her son, JaMichael Brown, was born at 9:05 a.m., he weighed 16 pounds, 1 ounce about 4 pounds more than doctors predicted.
The baby is the largest born at Good Shepherd Medical Center. Hospital officials believe he may be the largest baby ever born in Texas, but it will take several days of combing state records to make that announcement official.
Were just amazed, Johnson said. I cant believe hes that big. A lot of the baby clothes we bought for him will have to be returned. Theyre already too small for him to wear.
The baby also emerged with a full head of hair, and the newborn nursery didnt have diapers big enough to fit him, she said.

Was the mother a diabetic?
Diabetics typically have larger babies.
Instant linebacker...
I am guessing the birth mom was a tad obese as part of/result of/ prior to her pregnancy. Just sayin’.
Also I bet this baby loses a lot of fluid weight in its first few days and then progresses normally.
24 inches is a long baby, and 16 pounds is a whopper.
I wish them the best.
And a better lifelong diet.
The doctors certainly must have had a clue???
You know what they say about TX - bigger and better!
My son was 10lbs 22” at birth. Not huge. but when you take in to consideration he was born at 32 weeks (2 months early) you can see where he was headed size/weight wise.
Now he’s a skinny little guy, but he’s taller that most 5 year olds (he’ll be 4 in a month)
Yes, mom is type 1.
It said she got gestational diabetes, so apparently that counts.
Otherwise, if a baby goes on too long in gestation (either misjudged age or waiting for natural labor to start, like mine), it can get bigger than would be expected for normal 40-wk period.
Yeah; love the name.
Funny that he’s from “Michael” and “Janet”. I am betting they are at best shack-ups, too. I don’t share my husband’s name, but we’re the rare exception. Usually that means “illegitimate parents”.
you would’nt even wanna imagine trying to push that whopper out.
Future college football and NFL draftee!
Gestational diabetes makes sense. When my oldest was born in 1977 another woman down the hall from my wife had gestational diabetes and her son was 12.5 lb. and that kid was big.
bttt
Neither do I, although we've been married 22 years. Just when I was ready to surrender to the nuisance name, since I was having to spell it for everyone for everything our children did, my mother put all their estates-and-trusts documents in my legal (birth) name! So perhaps after my parents pass away and the estate is conclusively settled, I'll change it. That will almost certainly happen before all the children leave home, since my parents are in their 70s and the baby is 2.
That said, one does suspect the parents of the immense young JaMichael are unmarried. After sticking him with that idiotic name, the least they could do is get married.
God that is one god awful name, guessing its a cross between the parents name, Janet and Michael, so why not go for Jan Michael instead, rather than something that sounds so ghettoish it positively makes the name Laqueisha look posh.
Someone has to pay the bill and that’s you and me.
She gave birth to a toddler.
I agree.
Was he born, or in the words of Shakespeare, from his mother’s womb “untimely ripp’d?”
