UNION CITY, Tenn. — A spokesperson with USW Local 878-L said union members are finished working at Goodyear Tire and Rubber Plant.
“(The workers) are through and will not make tires anymore. They’re done making tires,” Union Spokesman Dale Carroll said late Sunday night.
Carroll told Local 6 that Goodyear presented the union with what Carroll called a WARN (Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification) Act - a 60 day notice that the plant will close.
At this point phone calls to Goodyear have not been returned. However, on Saturday, a spokesperson with Goodyear told Local 6 by phone that the plant was not closing down this weekend but would by the end of the year.
Carroll also tells us workers are arriving to pick up tools and personal items.
