DeMint Calls Romney a ‘Good Candidate’
NRO ^ | July 6, 2011 | Katrina Trinko

Posted on 07/06/2011 4:35:01 PM PDT by Al B.

Sen. Jim DeMint, whose push for more conservative senate candidates in the 2010 cycle lead to several primary challenges, is open to endorsing Mitt Romney.

“I endorsed Romney last time, and I think he’s a good candidate,” DeMint tells National Review Online today in an office visit. “I’m not going to hold any one or two things against a candidate that they’ve done. I’ve had some bum votes in my life.”

Instead of a perfect voting record, DeMint is looking for “the ability to inspire and show some courage and I think, take on our own party in some cases.” He calls Romney a “certainly viable” candidate.

A Demint endorsement will be a big boost to Romney

Or a big blow to some of our opinions of Sen. Demint. I vote the later.

I can understand endorsing Romney in 2008 (no other choice really) but now? When you've got more conservative candidates in the race and some who might still jump in?

See post 10, nobody in politics has been more devoted to advancing Mitt Romney’s career and power than Jim DeMint, over the last half decade.

I guess DeMint is just another Progressive pubby.

A Vichy Republican.

If he doesn’t endorse he doesn’t either lose all credibility by backing Romney or lose Romney and the chance to be named his veep.

Pretty strange though supposedly trying to keep his SC colleagues from splintering their conservative endorsements or votes so that a moderate walks to the nomination, when the most likely moderate to so benefit is Romney.

No point in getting too angry at DeMint.

I’m sure National Review twisted his statement or took it out of context. Presumably he’d endorse Romney if he wins the nomination. What else can he say?

You can count on the left-wingers at NRO (which is most of them, now) to twist things to their own satisfaction.

Love that song! Well he started his script reading by telling me how important it is that we defeat the dims and how much they need our money to do the job... and I told him that boehner has done nothing as speaker except lie and cry... I told him that all of the republicans in 2010 said that they had heard us loud and clear... that they would make repealing obamacare job priority number one... cutting spending would be job priority number two and creating jobs by cutting the size of government and getting government off the backs of small business... and I explained to him that not one word of legislative language has been put on paper to defund obamacare... that nothing has been done to reduce spending or the deficit... and that the Continuing Resolution passed was an outrageous lie... and he said he knew... that he was just being paid as a fundraiser. I asked him if he gave to the rnc himself... and he said no... he was giving to conservative candidates. I told him welcome to the club and that he needed to find a new job because I was pretty certain that his present employer was going to run out of funds with which to pay him... and we parted without any further rnc BS. This is the best way that I can paraphrase our conversation because we both were a bit more animated. ;-)

What about the depth and longevity of the relationship between Romney and DeMint, as described in post 10?

Neo... you have always known that something was not right with the world... you have always suspected that things are not what they seem.

You mean the Matrix?

Do you want to know what it is. Take the blue pill and you will find yourself back in your apartment... things will be as they were... you will not remember any of this... but if you want to know... if you want out... if you want to be free... take the red pill Neo.

I took the red pill long ago!

I flunked mine reading 101, all I can tell you is what he told Hanity a few hours ago, and that was he was keeping his powder dry. But if I was guessing he is watching the developments in the Bachmann camp and may join her.

I just don’t get this. Romney is anathema to DeMint’s political philosophy.

Romney is a Rino and sits to the left of McCain. If he runs, I’m afraid it will be a disappointing election, in the order of 2008. There’s just not much to get excited about there.
