even though prosecutors were forced to rely largely on circumstantial evidence

Circumstantial evidence is the corner stone of our justice system. Cayce was the last to see the child. She had motive. She had opportunity. She had the behavior. She was the only one happy about it and the only one who benefited by it. And this time, there was actually a dead body!

The key word in "reasonable doubt" is "reasonable."

There was no video of Susan Smith pushing her car full of children into the water. There was no absolute, beyond a shadow of a doubt, proof. Maybe it was a car jacking. Maybe the car rolled into the water. We'll never really know, right? No one can prove it was actually she who pushed the car into the water, but the circumstances surrounding the incident pointed strait to her, just as the death of little Caylee pointed straight to her mother.

This is not a time to celebrate of our justice system. It's a time to mourn over it's occasional flaws.

I am in mourning, surrounded by puzzlement, and devoid of understanding. My prayers are that it will remain very occasional. What an injustice to that little girl. I suppose now, thanks to the jury, she will simply be forgotten about. The killer will never be brought to justice now, too bad, how sad I guess.

“This is not a time to celebrate of our justice system. It’s a time to mourn over it’s occasional flaws.”

Well said.

This was a lazy arsed jury that asked for zero tapes to review key evidence....ZERO.

There was clear evidence in this case and absolutely desperate attempts by the Defense to confuse the jury with ridiculous allegations against the grandfather and including stunning perjury by the grandmother to implicate herself - a mere ruse to confuse this jury.

This Jury would be confused by a stop sign. They are just the tip of the spear of the Confederacy of Dunces we are becoming.

Isn’t a confession absolute, beyond a shadow of a doubt, proof?

...does this mental retard (the writer of this article) think that "circumstantial evidence" means "lack of evidence"?

Does this mental retard not know that MOST convictions come from "circumstantial evidence"?

Does this mental retard think that only murders committed on television, with the cameras rolling, are the only cases with "proper evidence"?

And lastly, did this mental retard get paid for writing this tripe?

Susan Smith cracked under questioning. Scott Peterson admitted to and was seen fishing in the same aree where his wife’s body was found, used the same homemade concrete anchors, was seen loading what looked like a body in to the boat.

While I believe that Casey was involved, why insn’t anyone questioning why the PD didn’t push on pops harder. Maybe because he is/was one for 20 years or so. It is plausible that he used his knowledge of crime scene to think that he was involved in a cover up as was her mother. Who had more to lose, Casey or her parents if there was an accident under their care.

The way the cops took this thing so non chalantly at first, then contaminated the crime scene shows just how inept their invesigation was. The prosecutor was on the Today show this morning and said that thier case was built on hope that when the jury saw the pictures of the body that they would come to the conclusion that she died of violence.

Two things are for certain in this case, the innocent child is dead and the is is one screwed up family...
