Or maybe they are afraid for their lives, afraid of ‘mob rule” convicting them.

there hasn’t been a lot of respect for the jury here on Freep...a conservative site that is dedicated to the constitution.

Recovering Ex-hippie, I don't know. I hadn't followed this case much....got interested in it lately for personal reasons. I do respect juries. I think this idea of "mob rule" is a bit overstated (IMO, of course).

I'm not going to get too emotional over a verdict, rightly or wrongly decided, for just one case.

I find it sad that a little girl won't have her killer (or responsible adult who should have reported an "accidental death") have to face justice/consequences for their actions. I don't like all the "crazies" out there who would go to the Anthony's house and protest them without knowing much. I don't like all the crazies who want to go to the court room so they, themselves, can get their 15 minutes.

The one thing I do have to acknowledge about somewhat "liking" is the overwhelming sense that people know justice was not accomplished. There used to be a code in this country that a mom who did something like this would be shamed to the point that no matter what a jury decided, she would be forever shunned, her name would be mud. She might as well find a rock and climb under it.

Regardless whether she killed the child (which I tend toward from my reading of evidence presented), or merely covered up an accident, her conduct was abysmal. She SHOULD hide under a rock and never come out unless she gets her heart right and fesses up to what she did......then faces consequences for her actions.

Regardless of the verdict of this case, she is lower than low, IMO. I think that is what a lot of people are reacting to. A jury has had its say. That's the way it is.

I agree, this woman is a selfish , lying woman.

However, our legal system is NOT about justice in a particular trial, much as we want that. In some cases, we end up with justice, sometimes we don’t.

The Legal system is about providing a fair, open examination of the evidence as to WHETHER A PERSON IS GUILTY OF THE CHARGES.We don’t have to find out the “why” the person did this, or the character of the person...those that may be part of the trial. We only have to have the prosecution Prove to a jury beyond reasonable doubt that the dfendant is guilty OF THE CHARGES.

That is one reason we have open trials and all the Miranda stuff, defendant’s rights, evidence specifics, prejudicial evidence. We will let 10 men go free rather than convict one wrongly.

The alternative IS mob rule or a dictatorship or even a military trial. We no longer have the “stocks” women were put into for being a bad person, or wearing a scarlet A for adultry. Casey WILL be shamed, no doubt.

It IS sad that the little girl won’t have her killer punished...but so far, according to our jury system, we do not have the answer to that. That is part of the intense reaction. We want this person punished.
