I don’t think we disagree. Seems to me that if we stopped remittances entirely by wire, if only for a month or so, we would have little trouble re-opening them with a tax.
As to the drain in capital, you are right, but the other side will then make the case that the money wouldn’t have to leave the US if the families were allowed in as well. You know how the other side operates as well as I do.
No one seems to address this issue. I am tired of it not being addressed. It’s sort of like there is a leak in a ship’s hull and everyone stands around saying “Yep, there’s a leak. Someone should do something about it.” Meanwhile, the ship is sinking.
True enough,spin is the rule.
Exactly well stated,to confirm what you say just look at what zero says and then what he does. It’s apparent we are under attack from within.
In addition to the certain legal challenges posed by such a ban, I doubt any legislation could ever get through Congress to do such a thing. Moreover, issues of reciprocity and international law will kick in as well.
Our efforts would be better served cutting off the job magnet in the US and significantly reducing our legal immigration numbers.
And if all that fails we could still try and secure the borders.....
Our future is one of burden no matter the course. We are Americans... we are exceptional and we can do what no other entity on Earth has ever done... because we have done many of those types of things in the past... and ALL because of American exceptionalism:
“We will do this and the other things... not because they are easy... but because they are hard”!
Happy 4th FRiend.

40% of all illegals came here legally and are visa overstays. The border must be secured, but we need to implement other internal controls on people who enter the country legally on temporary visas.
I usually watch a half-hour of Reliable Sources (on CNN w/Howard Kurtz) before McLaughlin Group starts, since it’s focused on Media coverage of the week’s “news” and I like to see what their biases of the week will be. Man, was it ever obvious in the panel talking about Mark Halpern’s and Michele Bachmann’s “gaffes”.
Sounds like all the Sunday news shows gave Romney a big wet kiss this morning by ignoring that he only raised half the amount this quarter that his people forecast.
(This is of course good news for Gov. Palin and her campaign to beat Romney in the primaries.)
Dyson-——Just like the vacuum cleaner....HE SUCKS!
I usually tape ABC to catch George Will. I was astonished to see an illegal overtly on TV..sitting there without any fear..
And the discussion of the Constitution was laugable. This country is in deep trouble.

If this guy gets the nomination we are gonna have to go third party quick. Or secede.
Romney’s the weak Establishment horse and Palin is the only other candidate in a position to stop him, but that simple truth is the last thing anyone in the media wants to acknowledge.
Look at this Gallup poll. Only Romney and the still undeclared Palin register double-digit support (at 24% and 16% respectively), while after the massive media hype of the last two weeks Bachmann only ties at 7th with Gingrich, at 5%.

Thanks, Diana. Red Skelton, what a love.
I do believe that 40% number is based on a massive underestimate of illegal border crossings (and current illegal immigrants) from Latin America. It’s the sort of number you’d get from a 12M estimate rather than a 30M estimate.
And you’re right, most of Romney’s strategy is selling his already overmortgaged soul to big donors, whereas Palin’s approach is gorilla campaigning to minimize the amount she needs to raise in order to be competitive without selling her still-intact soul.
That’s why Romney’s coming up so short last quarter is such good, underreported news.
Happy 4th to all FReeper Patriots. Vote out all incumbants except the Tea Party Candidates and bring in more. This is a lifetime war.
The gamble of course with the debt ceiling is not that we cant get along with 20 billion per month instead of thirty but that the left who actually writes the checks will not write one for the interest on the debt.
There is no guarantee they will do what is right of the nation especially if they think they can get the DBM to place any blame on us.
The other gamble of course is that our older and far less wiser pubbie reps will fold. We never know what they will actually do when push comes to shove.
