I read that Saudi is woefully deficient in such mundane things as auto mechanics. Saudis have a hangup on Mercedes-Benz cars, but the don't (or can't) fix even small maintenance related items — like disc brake pads. Saudis will just dump the car and get a new one. There must be tons of good used, low mileage cars in Saudi that wouldn't take much to fix and put back on the road.

Actually, there’s an export industry for those used cars. Run by expats. Been going on for decades.

The Saudi dumps his broke car and buys another. The expats buy the abandoned car cheap, fixes it up and sells it for a profit in countries nearby that are not so rich...
