In most of these things you call "bizarre", she was essentially correct. The "errors" were distortions by the media. For instance, John Wayne's parents actually lived in Waterloo, IA, before Wayne was born. He was born, and grew up just 120 miles away, in Winterset. Bachmann has spoken frequently of "living in John Wayne's America". She clearly did not mean John Wayne Gacy, who was born in Chicago, and lived just a few months in Waterloo IA as a teenager.
The reference by Chris Wallace calling her a flake because she said "30,000 civilians were killed" did not mention the fact that she was quoteing an authority who did say that. Note that Wallace did not call Obama a flake when Obama personally said that 10,000 people were killed in a tornado that actually killed only 12. The bizarre references are the press, not Michelle Bachmann
Yeah, really you don't help with such easily refudiated claims
he was in his mid-20s, he lived in Waterloo for 3 years, until he was arrested and jailed for sexually assaulting two local teenaged boys. He was fairly well known as a local businessman and Jaycee member at the time. And this happened while Michelle was still living in Waterloo.

How many voters on their way to the caucuses or primaries are gonna be thinking about where John Wayne was born? Frankly, it’s flakey to think something like this is relevant, and even flakier to then get it WRONG.
Geesh.
