The 37-year-old Monrovia resident reflected the sentiment of most of the 93,000 strong crowd when he added: ‘But yet, I didn’t have a choice to come here, I was born in Mexico, and that is where my heart will always be.’

Not all immigrants feel that way. When I was working in the public library in South Pasadena, Calif., a Chinese woman who could barely speak English came up to me and asked for some books on US history during the Colonial era for her daughter. She said she wanted her daughter to learn about her new country and to become a patriotic American.

NYC has a very large Chinese population. We also have a very large illegal south of the border population. Here’s the difference. Chinese parents speak to their children in English. South of the border illegals speak to theirs in Spanish. This is not 100% of the cases but i hear this on the subway all the time. I would say its 85%+ in both cases.
