Bachmann Launches Presidential Campaign
Fox News ^ | 27 June 2011 | Staff

Rep. Michele Bachmann, stressing her Iowa roots and appealing directly to Tea Party voters, came out swinging Monday as she formally launched her campaign for president.

Buoyed by a strong showing in several recent polls, the Minnesota congresswoman cast her campaign as the voice for "constitutional conservatives" looking for a government that lives within its means while giving the private sector the room to grow. She launched a broadside against President Obama for racking up too much debt while stimulating too little job growth and vowed to make him a "one-term president."

"We cannot afford four more years of Barack Obama," she declared, later adding: "We can win in 2012 and we will win."

In her announcement, Bachmann described a special bond with Iowa, the nation's leadoff caucus state. She held the kickoff in her hometown of Waterloo, Iowa, and called herself a "descendent of generations of Iowans," saying the state is where she learned "everything I needed to know." She also appealed to another vital primary constituency, calling herself part of the Tea Party movement and defending it as a cross-section of Republicans, independents and disaffected Democrats.

Because once Palin jumps most of Bachmann’s support will shift to Palin, right?

Not this Bachmann supporter.

I don’t think you understand Federalism. Bachmann supports the right of states to make laws withour Federal intervention, as set forth in the Constitution. She also thinks that he Constitution should be amended. The Federal government is not the Constitution, but an implement of it. State’s rights exist within the Constitution.

You're probably right. But throwing out the "mechanics" of it, doesn't she still contradict herself? I may just be too dense....lol

“All’s my tag line shows is that I am open.”

So you ADMIT IT! (lol)

” If it were Bachmann supporters on here talking crap about Palin I would be doing the same thing. My goal is not Palin you’re correct, my goal is conservatives getting Obama fired. And I will say again, no one is stopping Palin.”

I agree with every word of that and for the slobbering cultist that IS stalking my every post (he knows who he is) I have a problem with over the top attacks on conservatives by those who purport to be Palin supporters. Like the candidate that you claim to “love” try showing some class, not your azz.

I am not a Bachmann supporter. I will wait and see.But I’ll be damned if I can sit by and watch the loons here lie about Bachmann. Perry will get the nomination and there will be a break down on here if he does not pick Palin as VP.If he does they will all of a sudden say Saint Rick after bashing him for months. I’ll say right here right now he is not a saint but he will win the nomination. This is how the GOP roll.

Bachman has zero executive experience....and her latests reponses to questions was weak at best. I like her but at the rate she’s going she’ll not make it to the finish line IMO.

I would advise all of us to be careful about immigration. You can have your living room opinion on the matter and that's fine. We all probably do. These politicians have no trickier tightrope to walk than "immigration." For instance, Rick Perry pissed a lot of Texans off when he decided against an Arizona-style law for Texas. Fast-forward a bit and stay with me. He was actually SMART for deciding this, in two ways. Maybe three. To begin with, he got re-elected, presumably due to the hispanic vote. That's one. Secondly, Arizona was overruled by a federal district court out of San Francisco. This gave pause for people to stop and think, "hmmmm...maybe he was right."

The net result? He remains governor of Texas, doing a pretty good job, has a fair amount of hispanic support, and could possibly win the presidency.

Bottom line, immigration is a 2-headed monster for a politician. Go strong and lose your seat. Go weak and lose your seat. Be smart and move ahead. It cost the hell out of Duncan Hunter and Tom Tancredo. It cost John McCain. You can either slit your own throat or you can be smart and pick the right battles.

just sayin..

That is not the best transcript, it starts with Palin saying ‘Right’ to an unknown question having to do with registration. I bet there are better sources of that interview like a video or a post here.

Bachmann cries about 30,000 killed by NATO, a number she embarrassingly and incorrectly attributes only to NATO and which comes from the Gaddafi people, but then votes against the bill to cut funding for pilotless drones and other airstrikes:

"People should be outraged at the foolishness of the president's decision," she said. "He said he wanted to go in for humanitarian purposes and overnight we are hearing that potentially 10 to 30,000 people could have been killed in the strike. Those are some of the reports."

27 of the (Tea Party) caucus' 59 members voted against a GOP-led bill to strip federal dollars from part of the American effort there.

The group's chairwoman, Rep. Michele Bachmann of Minnesota, was among those who voted no.

The second resolution would stop funding for any operation in Libya except non-hostile ones, like search and rescue missions.

Palin isn’t running. I know everybody thinks she is, but she isn’t, and I like her.

When she announces that she isn’t running...the gnashing of teeth here will be audible.

I did. Maybe you should do some more research and find an opinion that isn’t almost 5 months old.

Agreed. I don't know why Palin supports (like myself) don't start at least admitting internally that she isn't running to get some of the let-down and disappointment begin to drain out instead of all at once. So many are convinced she's going to come riding over the hill, but she's sitting this one out, 2016 is when she'll run, after Obama's 2nd term is up.
