Howie thread for the wk starting with Sun Herald column
Sun column ping
I wonder if anything can top last week’s developments?
Indeed! Ok I found a comp. with a mouse so I can actually cut and paste today's column. I have a netbook but these days I guess the Acers don't come with a mouse--could buy one but when I did that last time with a netbook not only did the mouse not work too well but things kinda got screwed up. Anyway it's not easy to cut and paste without a mouse, at least on the browsers I'm using. But THIS one has a mouse.
OK.
Let’s talk, Whitey From the desk of Howie Carr

Whitey, can I give you some advice? Plead guilty. You’re not going to like the Plymouth County House of Correction. You thought there was nothing to do at Alcatraz? At least there you had a cell with a view. You won’t find any jailbirds as butch as the Choctaw Kid in Plymouth. Ask Stevie Flemmi about that. He ended up with a Jehovah’s Witness burglar. There won’t be any emissaries from your brother like Will McDonough at Leavenworth.
Willie took a heart attack, he’s dead. Ditto Roger Gill, George Kaufman, Phil Waggenheim, Joe Mac, Joe Russo, Gerry Angiulo, Paul Rico, Dennis Condon, Jeremiah O’Sullivan. . . .
Talk about “The Departed.” The feds used to jab Stevie, asking him on the witness stand if you were “riding to his rescue.” Who’s left to ride to your rescue, Whitey? Not even Mike Barnicle would dare give you a wet kiss these days. Hope you had a chance to say goodbye to Catherine on that chartered flight back to Boston, because Friday may be the last time you ever speak to her. What a broad — I still can’t believe that she’d hook up with the guy who murdered her two ex-brothers-in-law, Donald and Paulie McGonagle. By the way, what was up with her crazy statement that Billy would handle her bill? Talk about getting off-message. And it’s too late for you to, uh, straighten her out, the way you straightened out the Debs, Davis and Hussey. I doubt you care much, but this is the last thing your family needs.
Your favorite nephew, Chris, fired from his hack $110,000-a-year job in the Probation patronage scandal, really did himself some resume-enhancing out there on Northern Avenue Friday afternoon, shoving reporters around. Your little brother Billy still craves respectability. Even now, after all the decades of scandal and photo finishes with the grand jury, he still has a phony-baloney legislative award named after himself.
What’s next, the Sal DiMasi Legislative Ethics Award? You ought to reach out to Stevie. Last I heard, he was in Otisville, not in general population. Must be kinda lonely but it beats getting shanked, am I right? If you still had anybody to snitch on, maybe they’d send you down to that joint in northern Florida the BOP set up for, ahem, cooperating witnesses.
It’s quite the place, all the rats creeping around, trying to get something on everybody else, just like they were back out on the street. Come to think of it, you’d fit in perfectly down there. Or maybe you could retire to a state pen in Florida after you plead guilty to the Callahan hit. The reason I mention it is that’s where Zip Connolly is going next week, for the next 40 or so years, on that same Callahan beef.
Good old Zip — he never threatened his masters and always kept his mouth shut, unlike Catherine did Friday. Good old Zip — dumber than two bags of rocks. Good thing you lasted outside this long, because you’re probably too old now to be strapped to the gurney. Which means, as bleak as your future looks, you’re still ahead of the game, unlike, say, Richie Castucci, Brian Halloran, Michael Donahue, Al Plummer, Billy O’Brien, Spike O’Toole, the McGonagle twins, the two Debs and so many other victims whose names I don’t even have space enough here to mention.

Why? Why? Why? does RKO insist on letting the screamer sit in for Howie? Where’s Avi? Hell, where’s VB? McPhee is God awful, I don’t get how anyone can listen to her and what’s with her teaming up with Howie, books tours, etc. she’s certainly hanging on tight to Howie’s coat tails!
Contrary to what seems to be general opinion here, I thought McPhee was great! OK, her voice takes a bit of getting used to, but she knows her stuff on organized crime around here! And organized crime was the news of the day!
Howie Carr will be broadcasting his show live from Ascari Restaurant at F1 Boston in Braintree from 3 to 7pm today!
Howie will be joined by fellow author and WRKO host Michele Mcphee for the final segment followed by a special book signing and meet and greet.
He was back yesterday; he went over the “Dog Room” stuff.
I think McPhee is OK, though I could see how some people might have some complaints with her voice. I agree with others that Sandy has a bigger role which is nice — BTW, except for a trip to the hospital, does Sandy ever take a day off? How long will she take off for her wedding? Who’s the lucky guy?
Avi strikes me a a dull professor type. Is he supposed to be quasi-libertarian? I definitely don’t look forward to hearing him on the radio.
Above all, my favorite substitute voice I love to hear on the radio is Mark Steyn. He cracks me up every time. Last time, he was talking about two lesbian bloggers who, hmm, were really men. Hilarious! I wish he had a show in Boston — drop Michael Savage for Steyn!
Avi was actually great back in the 70s as an anti-busing voice! ;-) I can't stand it when he gets on his atheism or evolution kicks; they don't attract, well, the best callers and end up sounding like an 8th grade debate.
Three audiobooks that SHOULD have been read by the author:
The End of the World as We Know it, by Mark Steyn
Read by Grover (Something)
(OK, but Steyn would have been better)
The Brothers Bulger, by Howie Carr
Read by Michael Pritchard
(Ditto, Howie would have been better)
Hitman, by Howie Carr
Read by Keith (somebody)
Raspy tough guy voice. Again they didn’t bother to ask
Howie.
