ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) - Gay marriage will become legal in New York state after the Republican-led state Senate voted to approve it. Advocates are calling it a historic step as New York stands to become the sixth but by far the largest state to legalize same-sex marriage.
Democratic Gov. Andrew Cuomo lobbied hard for the bill and has promised to sign it.
The Senate vote is viewed as a major gain in an effort to allow gay marriage nationally.

All the more reason for a Federal Marriage Amendment to the US Constitution process to begin now, not after federal judges have ruled to redefine marriage for the entire country. Michele Bachmann claimed she was in favor of such an amendment in the recent New Hampshire Republican debate. She’s a member of the House and could introduce the amendment now. I don’t care if the current Senate doesn’t like it, the issue needs to be on the front burner. If eventually given the opportunity, two-thirds of the states would certainly approve of such an amendment.

I don’t know who the upstate Rinos were, but this link has the yeas and nays. I read an Upstate Rino was their ticket. BTW, was there any of the promised church protection?
Another reason to get out of this God forsaken place
I got one too. Says I’m a bigot.
They outlawed divorce?
Yep. I tried responding to him, but he just replied back by calling me a "hater". I finally encouraged him to stop sending mail to people and respond in the forums. Don't know if he'll take my advice. My final mail to him was to tell him I'd pray for him.
This is part of Hillary’s master plan to woo Rep. Weiner’s soon-to-be ex-wife.
That's the POINT.
Cuomo, the maggot didn’t fall from from the tree! Maggot, Jr., enjoy your live-in girlfriend - tomorrow you can marry her old boyfriend. Your payback to the slime was your first priority.
You reap what you sow and that doesn’t get a vote - it just happens automatically and you can’t stop it, maggot!!
Sheldon Silver has controlled the NY Legislature for 17 years. He calls himself an Orthodox Jew.
I guess he never read Leviticus, doesn’t know what a Toevah [abomination] is, doesn’t know what happened to the inhabitants of Sodom.
I just reported “NY 10101” to the moderators. Hopefully he’ll be encouraged to stop harassing people. Otherwise, his stay at FreeRepublic will be brief.
Now let’s watch and see the workings of the hand of God against these evil people.
Paladino should get some air time and ask the people - “is this what you really wanted”?
Remind them - and how he called out Cuomo and his homo agenda!
He was zotted.
Now that it’s passed, you are going to see a sudden and short=term flush of enthusiasm as about 100 couples prepare to get married, then a rapid dwindling-down of interest in the law and taking advantage of it. The entire hot-button issue was inflated to the breaking point in the most ridiculous ways. It was not about gay marriage as such , or even the threatened prosecution for those entrusted with performing the ceremonies, religious or otherwise, but instead a red-hot part of a larger Agenda, which will be ‘put in its place’ in very short order, just as the larger Agenda will. Prediction-—18 months from now we’ll be reading editorials with titles like “Gay Marriage-—what happened?” Two or three years from now we’ll be reading statistical breakdowns of same sex married couples showing higher numbers of divorces than among hetero couples.
But, hey, ‘it’s not the destination, it’s the journey”
or “getting there is half the fun!”
The worst thing about this is of course the fear that NOW THAT IT’S PASSED, it will indeed open that whole new can of worms of continuing the legitimization on every available front-—the self-appointed “spokesmen” for the gay community still need issues to keep themselves feeling important, and the contributions coming in.
