BOSTON (AP) - After 16 long years, the arrest of notorious Boston gangster James "Whitey" Bulger appeared to end a long, frustrating manhunt that had embarrassed the FBI and raised questions about its efforts to find one of its most wanted fugitives.
But Bulger's capture could be only the beginning of a new scandal for the Boston FBI and others.
If Bulger decides to cut a deal with prosecutors, he could implicate an untold number of local, state and federal law enforcement officials, according to investigators who built a racketeering indictment against Bulger before he fled in 1995.
"If he starts to talk, there will be some unwelcome accountability on the part of a lot of people inside law enforcement," said retired Massachusetts state police Maj. Tom Duffy. "Let me put it this way: I wouldn't want my pension contingent on what he will say at this point."

Interesting. I didn’t know about the America’s Most Wanted info. The one thing I’m really surprised about is that Whitey and Greig apparently relocated there right away and stayed there for the entire 16 years. I figured Whitey would move around. There are a lot of theories out there now about how Whitey and Greig sustained themselves over this time. It will be interesting to find out how everything went down in the coming days, etc...

Wonder of wonders!! The couple moved into the apartment in 1996, fifteen years ago, and stayed. In my opinion, their whereabouts had to be well-known. Also, Greig's habits had to be well-known. Why was info about her broadcast only this past month?
Something stinks.
I recall, in something I read or saw during the past week, it was said that Whitey had artwork in the apartment, “knock-offs” of Van Gogh and Rembrandt that he favored. I think everything he did was a clue so he could have a laugh at law enforcement and his victims.
Who died that they don’t have to protect anymore—Ted Kennedy died two years ago, just saying.
Connolly and the other crooked FBI worked side-by-side in the FBI office. The honest FBI guys have had to know that something was going on. Over the years, there must have been lots of members of the public who gave them information about Whitey and his partners without it going anywhere. Maybe this went all the way to Washington. Wouldn’t they need a cover in the Washington office to keep all of the corruption in the Boston office from being found out? I suspect that when there is corruption in law enforcement there are probably political people behind the scenes who are getting their share of the take. Whitey made lots of money selling drugs and other crimes, look at all the money he had stashed away. There must have been lots of money to share with any crooked politicians who wanted a peace of the action.
Bring it on, most of them are going to be Dems.
