NEW ORLEANS Four years after George W. Bush left the White House, some US Republicans are pinning their hopes on his successor as Texas governor to triumph over President Barack Obama in the 2012 election.
Governor Rick Perry, who has openly flirted with running and said he will decide soon whether to throw his hat in the ring, was due Saturday to address delegates to an influential Republican Party gathering in this party city.
Perry isn't on the Southern Republican Leadership Conference straw poll ballot, but some of the delegates here say they like what they have seen so far from the nation's longest-serving governor.
"I'm hoping that Rick Perry makes a bid," said Regina Wilson, a Louisiana resident. "He can be strong when he needs to be strong, I think he has good thoughts, and I think he has the strength we need."
Former Republican vice presidential candidate and archconservative "Tea Party" movement darling Sarah Palin grins from a button on O. P. Ditch's shirt, but the 22-year US Air Force veteran says he likes what he sees in Perry.
"I want to hear what he has to say, and see if he jumps in," said Ditch, 73, adding "I think recently he's done a real good job with the state of Texas."
"I was enthused about him, about the potential for him jumping in because I know he's a good friend of the governor's (Palin), so if she thinks he's a good guy, I think he's a good guy," said Ditch. "If she doesn't run."

How long ago did that happen?
Where did you come up with that.....whatever you are drinking or smoking...I want some!
Try doing some research on the special session yourself.....well I’ll do it for you but it will be expensive...
2 Questions:
1. Why is Texas over run with illegal aliens?
2. Why are Texas hospitals like Parkland Dallas, home to nearly 1000 anchor babies per month?
See my tag line.
See my invisible tag line...ignorance is no excuse!
Why didn’t Bush do something about it??
At least Perry has done something.
What is anybody doing??
Nothing. They’re crippled by PC.
We would like them all deported.
We would like the border armed and guarded- illegal immigration stopped.
NO POTUS is going to do this. No candidate is going to promise this.
It just ain’t gonna happen.
The point is; we need to get the Marxist/Muslim’s a$$ out of the White House before he finishes destroying America.
To do this we need a candidate who has cross-over appeal, something that Palin and Cain (no matter how much we love them) just do not have.
I just want someone who can win.
.
You evaded the question...That’s your decision.
2 Questions:
1. Then why is Texas over run with illegal aliens?
2. Why are Texas hospitals like Parkland Dallas, home to nearly 1000 anchor babies per month?
Why didnt Bush do something about it?? At least Perry has done something.
Oh, boy....This is starting all over again...
Not new news to me. This is typical of Perry. Finger in the wind because some think he should run for president. Why didn't he fix the santuary cities problem that has been a problem for many years in Texas. He had the juice to do this a long time ago.
Why didn't he put the TSA pat down bill on the special session agenda? He could have. That would have been earth shaking to me and I'd have said Perry has indeed changed. But he did not. He could have unrung the in-state tuition bill for illegals and firmly addressed the imminent domain issue that has been festering for years. The list goes on....
What the.... are you on crack? Um, Arizona, Oklahoma, Alabama just passed a strict immigration law. Perry? “The Arizona law is NOT GOOD for Texas.” PERRY SUCKS!@
Are you implying Palin isn't a conservative?
Why worry about an implication? Deal with the fact at hand.
Ask the Perry supporters 2 questions:
1. Why is Texas over run with illegal aliens?
2. Why are Texas hospitals like Parkland Dallas, home to nearly 1000 anchor babies per month?
"Governor Perry introduced me with some humorous remarks about things we had in common, like loving the outdoors, and something about how we love people who cling to guns and religion, and how we've faced down the good ol' boys. Then I took the podium and opened by teasing the audience about how great it was to be in our "little sister state of Texas."
Sarah gave her speech about Alaska's "three-legged stool approach meeting to our energy needs: conservation, responsible development, and renewable energy sources."
It reveals that Sarah and Rick Perry are on the same page in our nation's energy needs. I won't take time to show how they are on the same page in the social and economic areas now. However, many have remarked that a Perry-Palin ticket would be the Republican "Dream Team." It would be a marriage between the big politics politician and the citizen patriot of the Tea Party. It would put both factions in a dialog which will get the Republican Party back on the same page with the American people and not just making money off the special interest groups.
I agree.
Not at all. I was simply saying I have no idea why she would support Perry or McCain. That is a question for her. Same for the comments by Limbaugh recently.
I like Palin. Especially after seeing some of the emails they released regarding her and her support of the military. That is a big deal to me. I've been involved in such things myself the past few years. By directly giving money to people in the military, starting fundraisers for a local Marine that had a tramatic head injury, helped build a house for the same Marine and others. Even raised the money and built a veterans memorial locally. Etc, etc.
Palin is an uber-conservative compared to Perry.
The facts are that Perry has a solid conservative record on economic and social issues even if he did pander to illegals to win over Hispanics.
If Palin/Cain/Bachmann isn't the nominee, he'd be an acceptable nominee and one that appears to be formidable campaigner.
Oh boy....This is Bush all over again...
